Athletes' stats have shown tremendous growth and improvement over the past few decades. Athletes from a long time ago would not seemingly be able to compete with each other in a sport like ice hockey because of the technological advancements of equipment like skates and sticks. But there are still other sports like shotput and javelin, where there is really no way to make it too much easier on the athletes.

MJ Vs LeBron; who is the GOAT?

Every sport has a GOAT. But who is it for basketball, MJ, or LeBron? It is hard in this sense because basketball is a sport with areas of improvement in shoes, practice technology like shooting assistants, etc. These two athletes were not from two different eras though. MJ retired in 2003, which is the same day LeBron was drafted. So MJ was on his way out as LeBron was on his way in. MJ was the goat of his career, but how would LeBron have performed if he was competing against MJ's competition? Vice versa?

Connor McDavid. The undisputed MVP of the National Hockey League. He dominates the league today against all of other all stars he faces. But how would he do against previous undisputed league greats? Considering how much the equipment in the sport of hockey has improved, I don't know if someone like Wayne Gretzky could even stand a chance against Connor McDavid. So that just goes to prove how much better hockey has gotten in previous decades.

It is safe to say that the human population has not evolved in the past 100 years, that's not how it works. But how would we explain the constant new world records?
"Jesse Owens won the 1936 Olympics in 10.2 seconds, but would have come last in the 2013 race where Usain Bolt set his record of 9.77seconds.” However, he believes that humans have not evolved over that 77-year time span, but technology has gotten better at supporting them. (David Epstein). So to keep it short and sweet, technology has clearly been the reason for our rapid advancements in recent history.

No. It's about MJ who is from an older generation of basketball players. So Maybe athletes have not improved as much in basketball as in other sports.
