Jem's attitude towards Scout is "positively allergic... when in public" (Lee 153). Jem compares Scout to allergies and him being allergic to her and not wanting to be around her. He acts this way towards her because is trying to distance himself from her. "Why, one sprig of not grass can ruin a whole yard. Look here. When it comes fall&nbsp; this dries up and the wing blows it all over Maycomb County,"(Lee 56). Miss Maudie uses the sprigs that grow in her garden to represent how easy a bad attitude can spread if you  don't pull it at it's root. <br>&nbsp;<br>Paraphrased Qutoe<br>#1-Miss Maudie cares about her garden and how she is willing to put in extra effort to pull out a 'weed'.
