The Echoing Green

 

The sun does arise,

And make happy the skies.

The merry bells ring

To welcome the Spring.

The sky-lark and thrush,

The birds of the bush,

Sing louder around,

To the bells’ cheerful sound. 

While our sports shall be seen 

On the Ecchoing Green. 

 

Old John, with white hair 

Does laugh away care, 

Sitting under the oak, 

Among the old folk, 

They laugh at our play, 

And soon they all say.

‘Such, such were the joys. 

When we all girls & boys, 

In our youth-time were seen, 

On the Ecchoing Green.’ 

 

Till the little ones weary

No more can be merry

The sun does descend,

And our sports have an end: 

Round the laps of their mothers, 

Many sisters and brothers, 

Like birds in their nest,

Are ready for rest;

And sport no more seen,

On the darkening Green.

We are about to head into Easter, and so I won’t be setting work in the same way for the next 2 weeks.

 

Normally, this would be a period of intense revision as you would be heading into the last stage of your studies before the exams. 

However, if you take an exam, it won’t be for quite some time yet, so you have to adjust your preparation accordingly, and pace yourself.

Therefore, I suggest you 

 

 

 

 

 

REVISION Keep re-reading your texts – particularly second year texts you may feel less familiar with – and use padlet to keep revision ticking along but PACE YOURSELF.

But at this stage you should be engaging with as many questions as you can

Read this outline

1.      A man gets into a taxi with a box.

2.      The taxi driver asks the man what is in the box.

3.      The man tells the taxi driver it is a present for his wife.

4.      The box starts leaking and the man starts getting annoyed.

5.      The taxi driver becomes increasingly suspicious about the man.

6.      The taxi driver performs an emergency stop and the contents of the box falls out.

If you are thinking of doing the Autumn exam, you need to keep on top of all of your texts by continuing to re-read them and make notes on character, themes, genre, structure and narrative/dramatic/poetic technique. This prepares you for questions on set texts, and feeds into your own creative writing on Paper 3
