Both my mom and dad introduced me to this profession because they are certified EMTs. I have watched them perform their job duties and they both enjoy what they do. I actually already completed an EMT class a few years ago, however, I had some temporary health issues surface that led me to put passing the National Certification Exam on the back burner. Not only does an EMT help others physically, but they can also become a safe space and really make a difference in the lives of others. For the exam, I have to go online and find an exam site near me. Then I would need to sign up to take the exam. For the class, there are many ways to take an EMT class. I could take the class online (occasional in person classes for hands-on experience), take the class through a community college or trade school, or take the class from an instructor who is employed by an Emergency Service Agency. I am a server and occasional bartender at a popular chain restaurant. I have had the opportunity to serve members of the deaf community. It was very interesting and a learning opportunity for me to be able to communicate effectively with them. However, I realized that learning sign language would make the process a lot easier for both the guests and me. My parents worked a lot growing up, so I never really experienced travelling to new places before. Because I am in college and I work a lot, I am not able to travel at the moment.
