“Supporting high-quality standards and research-based, culturally and linguistically relevant instruction with the belief that every student can learn including students of poverty, students with disabilities, English learners, and students from all ethnicities evident in the school and district cultures.”

I choose this quote because it helps tell why a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) is important and it also helps tell what is does. MTSS provides a basis for understanding how California educators can work together to ensure equitable access for all students. It is so important we teach as if every student is possible of learning at grade level. It is also crucial to teach culturally and linguistically relevant content. And when we have assessment systems in place, we can use those systems to get what ever student might be struggling help. We can even address and support gifted and high achieving students.

"Implementing a collaborative approach to analyze student data and working together in the intervention process."

To me this quote means to be continuously working together with the student's best interests in mind. It means to always consider your student data while lesson planning and be flexible. It is important to be flexible in order to ensure you are providing your student the best necessary supports. We, as educators, must make sure to be transparent with each other and to work together closely in order to help our students succeed to the best of their ability.

All in all, I think the Multi-Tiered System of Supports really emphasizes working together as a team in order to provide targeted support to the many unique students at a given school. It is crucial that you are flexible and willing to work collaboratively with those around you in order to support academic growth for all students. Without the adults on campuses working together as a team, students academic and/ or behavioral issues will just become worse. This is the opposite effect MTSS aims to have on California's students.
