When Peter, one of the main characters, said this quote he said it to himself. I think the purpose that he said this was to show what he believes are his responsibilities.
Peter has run away to find Pax and go back to his original home. This was said in the first 5 chapters, specifically chapter 4.
This quote is telling the readers that he has a lot of responsibilities, and one of them is on the field, to catch the ball so it isn’t out of the park. Another vital responsibility is that he should never leave Pax.
The author is implying that if Peter had a huge fence around the ball field the baseball could never be hit out of the park. And that if he had a large fence around Pax, that he would not have left him.

The quote for Pax is “the fence told him exactly what his responsibility was and wasn’t. Peter often wished that his responsibilities had such tall bright fences around it off the ball field, too.” This quote was said by Peter. He said this quote when he he was watching the kids play baseball at the baseball field. When Peter was saying this quote he was happy. Before this happened he hid under a bench in a baseball field and took a nap. The author is telling us that people can’t know your responsibility. Only you can know it. This quote is important because Peter’s favorite thing to do is play baseball. Every time he is in a baseball field he feels better. I see this idea in the world because I know that people can’t know your responsibilities without telling them.

Peter often wished that responsibility had such a right and - around it off the field too.” The mood/tone in this scene is calm and collective. The author is trying to tell us that Peter wished that responsibility had an outline, and was straightforward. To me this quote means that some things in life you have to find out by yourself. The quote significant impact me to think five times before asking a question.

Peter is sitting in the dugout after a long nap waiting for the chance to escape, when he starts to contemplate. “The fence told him exactly what his responsibility was and wasn’t. Peter often wished that responsibility had such bright tall fences around it off the ball field, too.” This shows Peter’s passion for baseball and why he loves it. Additionally, it shows how he is stressed out from his responsibilities and wishes he could manage them just how he handles baseball. It also displays Peter’s great love for baseball and how he wishes to have his old life back. Responsibilities are part of life and life isn’t like a game; if it were, it would have guidelines and instructions. I see this quote as an excellent explanation of most people’s desires. I don’t believe having this wish come to life would be beneficial. Everyone would do handle their responsibilities the easy way, without putting any work into it.

If the ball is a home run it’s not your problem. This quote is very important because it has many meanings. If you think about it it has different meanings. For example, if your parents are fighting you can’t control that, but if you don’t finish your school work, it your fault. There are somethings that are inside our diamonds, and some outside our diamonds. The author is trying to make us see, that for and you have full control over and some some things you're responsible and there is some that you can’t control.

Mackenzie- The event from the context was taking place in the baseball diamond. Peter Was speaking to himself and said this quote ¨ The fence was telling him what his responsibilities was and wasn't. Peter Often wished that responsibility had such bright tall fences around it off the ball field, too.¨	In other words to summarize it would be that you have to let go of things that you can control like the wheather, laws unless you are the president or prime minister(etc.) Because your anxiety might not like the weather but you can't say it is going to be sunny today you can't just predict if it is gonna happen or not. The author in this book is making us see that people have different moods/emotions with their responsibilities your responsibilities come with courage to show that you are committed and they also come along with rights. This passage had a significant impact on my thinking about why this quote is important well it is important it opens up how your responsibilities reflect on you if you can handle it or not. My connections are that your responsibilities are important for he/her no matter who you are you have responsibilities or a privilege to go to the baseball diamond just like peter.

If the baseball is inside the baseball diamond, he is responsible for it. “The fence told him what his responsibility was and wasn’t “ If the ball is in the field it’s his responsibility, but if the ball is out of the field, he doesn’t need to worry. We don’t need to worry about what we can’t control.
PM-The fence told him what his responsibility Was and wasn’t . Peter often wished that Responsibility had such bright tall fences Around it off the baseball field. What I think is that you should only worry about the things in your baseball field. But if they are outside your baseball field you do not have to worry about that Say a baseball If it is in you baseball field your worry about it but if it is not you do not worry . You will probably worry but you can’t do anything. What I mean is that you do not have to worry about thing that are out of you baseball field. Only worry about thing that are in your baseball field.I think that the author is trying to make us see that you do not have to worry about everything And that you do not even have control of everything I think that she is teaching us a lesson.I think that this quote is important because the quote is saying you don't have to worry about everything that's what i think.

In the book Pax, Peter is currently at a school and he’s watching a Baseball team play Baseball. Then, the book quotes, ‘The fence told him what his responsibility was, and wasn’t. Peter often wished that responsibility had such bright tall fences around it off the baseball field, too.” The quote is being said by the author, not the character. While he’s watching the kid plays, he especially pays close attention to the small kid. He caught any ball that went in ‘his territory’. In the book Pax, there is a metaphor that says, “Peter often wished that responsibility had such bright tall fences around it off the baseball field, too.” This quote means a lot to me because in my life, I have to do so much math homework and I know that when I grow up to become an adult I will have even bigger responsibilities than the responsibilities I have right now.

In the story Pax, after Peter wakes up from his nap at the baseball dugout, and thinks to himself, “The fence told him exactly what his responsibility was and wasn't Peter often wished that responsibility had such bright tall fences around it off the ball field, too.” Peter thinks this, and the purpose is to show how he feels, how he wants to know what's his responsibilities, just like how he knows what is his part on the baseball field. The quote means that Peter wishes that he had a fence, in life, not only baseball, that would tell him what his responsibilities are, or like when his mom died, he wishes that there was a fence to tell him if that was his fault. Sara Pennypacker wants to make us see that Peter is still most likely grieving over the loss of his mother. Yes, a literary device is used, because when saying at he wished there was wall around him in life, that is a metaphor, because peter does not want a literal fence, but he wants something like a fence, to clear what his life's responsibilities are. To me, this quote means that in life, not everything is confirmed, as others things may be. This means that in life, you just have to be willing to take a try, and maybe mess up a couple of times, but life is just isn't confirmed. I see this in the world because when I am in a group, and we get into trouble, if only one person takes the blame, they I feel guilty, but if I take the blame, I would still feel uncomfortable, because you know you may not have done that much. This quote had an impact on my thinking about how people get over loss. I can see that they still think about their loss, even after a while, and not only will they take a while to stop grieving. In conclusion, the quote that Peter thinks means that he wished that in life, there was a fence that showed him what his fault was, like how he blames himself for his mother's death. Also, he thinks if he had gone to the store with his mom, she wouldn't have died, therefore blaming himself.

Peter thought of this and it's purpose was that if the baseball lands right in the stadium, then, that is his responsibility. And if it falls out, out of the fence, it was not his responsibility. He is sitting in the stadium watching the baseball team that is practicing to play next game and he tried to lie out of it but he just made things worse. He said he was in Hampton and he played midfield but the other team was playing Hampton and they thought that he was a spy for the next game. I think that the quote means that he has his own responsibilities, and others don't have the same responsibilities as him. I think it was a metaphor because it means something. It meant to him because it means that that is important to him. This quote means to me that I have my own responsibilities and others don't have to same responsibilities that I have.

When Peter is watching the baseball practice, the text states, “he fence told him exactly what was his responsibility was and wasn't. Peter often wished that responsibility had such a bright tall fences around it off the ball field too.” In other words, Peter wishes that he had a reminder of what was his job to do and what isn’t. The text is making us see that Peter wishes metaphorically that he had a “bright tall fence” around him, so he can keep track of his jobs and responsibilities. In baseball, life is simple because once the ball goes over the fence, it is no longer his to care for. This quote is important because it shows that Peter feels he is responsible for a lot of his life, and how it turned out. This quote changes the mood of the story, turning it a little bit gray. This quote, to me, states that Peter is not really sure of his responsibilities, and he wonders what is his matter to care or not. One reason he likes baseball is because of this, because he likes knowing what to do. I see this idea in the world when I am confused, and I am not sure what to do. One time, I did not know that homework for that day and I wished that I could know my “responsibilities.”

He was watching someone play the short stock position. What this quote means that when the baseball went over the fence he said it’s not my responsibilities to get it. So that relates to his responsibilities it is also important to the text because it matches with the setting when it is at the baseball field. I understand why the author said this quote in the text.

I do not think there are any similes in this book, but there is a metaphor in this quote. In the part where he said He wished that there were bright tall fences around his responsibilities. But, I don't think he actually means bright tall fences around his responsibilities, so that's why I think that part is a metaphor.
What this quote means to me is that inside the ball field he has responsibilities but outside the fences are not his responsibilities. So what this means to me is that I know what my responsibilities are and what are not.

This quote was from the novel Pax by Sarah Pennypacker presented by the narrator relaying Peter’s thoughts: “The fence told him exactly what his responsibility was and wasn’t. Peter often wished that responsibility had such bright tall fences around it off the ball field, too.” A seemingly minor quote that would float past most readers as they read, devouring the rest and forgetting much but the general idea. However, the deceptively minuscule pretense is a thin sheen of mist obscuring another level, beneath the bland surface of the pages. As usual, the story’s tension is throttled up and down in the uncanny descriptive ability Pennypacker has claimed uniquely hers. Considering the crushing emotion and anxiety, it’s a wonder that many people have noticed the quote at all, because it is one in many thoughtful and moving quotes in the novel. However, it is one of the few that reveals the weight of responsibility draped around Peter’s shoulders of searching for Pax. During this time, Peter is plunged into wistful nostalgia as he watches a practice baseball match, eyes fixed on a skilled shortstop. Peter wishes that something else could carry the burden of this responsibility, or at least outline what he has to do, so some could be taken off and his uncertainty could be razed.

Peter has barely plunged into his journey and already he has been sidetracked, stuck in an hour-long practice baseball session. He wishes to hit the road once more and make up the lost time from resting in the empty dugout, and so his plan is to stay unnoticed with the mob of people watching practice. After seeing the baseball fences he is reminded of the days when he had been carefree--or rather, carried less responsibility than he did now. This helps solidify his character, with a love for baseball and also being entirely human, because he makes human mistakes. I haven’t yet met a child who doesn't wish that they had a little less responsibility, or that distant pastures don’t always look greener. I personally think that this quote has a subtle way of describing human nature--we always want more than we have, and every person wishes to have less responsibility than they ever have.

In summary, I believe that the narrator’s quote: “The fence told him exactly what his responsibility was and wasn’t. Peter often wished that responsibility had such bright, tall fences around it off the ball field, too” means that Peter wishes for something to help carry his burden of finding Pax.

In other words, the fence shows his responsibility by showing that it was his responsibility for his mother's death, and what he thinks will mean death for Pax if he “isn't where he should be” This also connects to the therapy session while he is banging the cars together. He also wants all his responsibilities as clear as life. The author is trying to make us see how Peter is taking responsibility on something he did not do such as his mother’s death, leaving Pax behind, also the quote is showing how the fences that Pax is his responsibility and he has left Pax behind. In this quote there is a metaphor when Peter is saying bright tall fences which are showing how his responsibilities and how thinks he is taking ownership for something he has not done. This quote means to me how I am doing something wrong and how it is my fault for everything that it really not my fault in the past.

The Quote in Pax is a quote explaining how Peter wishes the fence could tell him what to do and his responsibilities. The Quote basically means the Peter just wants a fence to be around his life, to tell him what to do and what not.

The author is trying to make us see that Peter just wants guidance. This Quote is important because it tells us that Peter wants to Know what his responsibilities are in life, just like how Baseball is to him. For example, sometimes you get in trouble and someone takes the blame. You feel guilty, but when you take the blame you feel guilty. You just want to know who to blame or who to get in trouble. “This quote had a significant impact on my thinking about how sometime you want someone to tell you what's wrong and what's right.”

Peter had a fence around him, he would make the right choices. If the fence didn't go around him, he would have made the wrong choices, so he didn't know his responsibilities were. Peter is at a ball field. He is hiding behind the fence in a ball ( ⚾️ ) field. When Peter got out of the fence, the other kid asked him a bunch of questions.

The narrator said to the audience. “the fence told him exactly what his responsibility was and wasn't. Peter often wished that responsibility had tall bright fences around it off the ball field too.” In other words he wished that there was a fence that held all his responsibilities so he could know what he had to do.
The author is trying to make us see that peter doesn't want to figure out what he's responsible for. I think this quote is important because it shows that he doesn't know what his responsibilities are.
Name Dmitriy. The narrator shows us how Peter feels in life with his responsibility and he what's to know how he can fix the wrong things he had made. The purpose of this is to show responsibility and take charge of what you have done. In the story so far Peter is a baseball field and he sees a player coming to get a ball and the player asks some questions to Peter ,but Peter got himself in more trouble. The quote means when responsibility comes your way that responsibility is difficult to handle. It reveals to Peter that responsibility is hard for him to handle in his life because so many mishaps that have happened are hard to let go and it makes Peter sad and mad. The metaphor in the story is that Peter wishes that he had a fence around him. This relates to me when I play hockey I take responsibility of when the other scores and I don't play my passion. I take responsibility of that time in my life

Peter said this and this purpose was the fence told Peter what was his responsibilities and also things that were not.the story is about what is response bled to Peter and what not.Peter wants to know what matters and what doesn't.in baseball his life is awesome but in real life it's a mess.this relates to me because it make me know what should my behavior should be and what not for example to give my dog food and do my homework. Another example is what not to do like not to skip school and not to do my homework. When Peter goes to the fence he what to know what his responsibilities should be.In other words he should do he responsibilities. The author is trying to tell us to do our responsibility and not to do the wrong thing. This quote is important because it is telling us what to do like our response ability.

David San Diego The narrator said this and it said to Peter. The purpose of this is that Peter wishes responsibility was easy and can do it really easily. Pax and Peter are switching in chapter and pax starters the chapter first. Pax is in the wild waiting and found some friends and Peter is in searching for pax walking all by himself he is now in the forest. It means that responsibility is not a easy to do like the responsibility for the fence is to keep the ball from going out of the stadium and the fence might break any second now. There is a metaphor and it means responsibility is not so easy to do. When I was on a basketball team I was responsible for doing lay ups and stealing the ball. When Peter say the baseball practice he said the quote “the fence told him exactly what his responsibility was and wasn't. Peter often wished that responsibility had such,”etc. pax and Peter are switching in every chapter and pax starters the chapter first. Pax is in the wild waiting and found some friends and Peter is in searching for pax walking all by himself he is now in the forest.“The author is trying to make us see that that you should work hard for reasonability and should do it. This quote is important because it tells the great responsibility of every thing you do.

I see this that he wishes that he could see all his responsibilities. Like if I do something then I should know am I doing the right thing. Like to wake up early and to do the right thing. When (event from the book-context) happened, (character’s name-speaker) says…that he wishes that his responsibilities were so big.In other words...Peter wishes that he was really good in baseballExplain significance, tone/mood, literary device:
“The author is trying to make us see that…”the things that was right and what was not.

When Peter said this quote, it is said to the reader to give them more information about peter, and illustrate that Peter has trouble realizing what what is his responsibility at home and what isn’t. He also feels responsible for things that have happened, and he cant change but wishes he could. He needs help discovering what he can handle and what he can't. I think the theme is to learn to find yourself, and control your emotions. I think the literary device that is used is a metaphor. It compares something literal, to something personal. It affects the user by giving off more information about Peter thoughts and worries. This quote represents how as we grow older, we need to find ourselves in this world and learn our own limits and responsibilities. This idea is used in the world because you can see people struggling to find themselves all around you.
