I haven't taught migrant students yet, but i believe that teachers, with the help of the community have to make these kids feel secure, help them stop being afraid, help them overcome the pain of having lost their homes or family members and give them back a home and the opportunity to dream of a better future. Having achieved that, we can then focus on teaching them through a new language and culture with all the difficulties that such an effort entails.

The parallel program could be put into practise for a couple of months, so that the the integration model can work more smoothly and effectively.
Another idea is to have newly arrived migrant students attend regular classes and additionallanguage classes in the evening.

As far as i know, many ideas presented in the Respact Program have been adopted in schools in Lesvos. Kids seem enthusiastic about the Welcome Day, the music and dance games, the sports activities, the decoration of their classes with multinational pictures etcAt the same time,.all these projects that kids do together promote acceptance and tolerance.
