The experiences of Ryan and his loved ones demonstrate that drug addiction harms everyone involved including both the user and those close to them. The medical facts from Chapter 9 confirm Ryan's addiction status because he shows tolerance, experiences withdrawal symptoms, craves alcohol continually and reduces his interactions with others. His family's behavior makes his addiction treatment harder by showing how addiction affects everyone who cares about him. Our study shows how Ryan's behaviors describe the health effects caused by chemical dependence.

To obtain similar results Ryan must consume three pints of vodka every day because his tolerance builds up. The situation fits the tolerance concept from Chapter 9 which means the body learns to handle substances so users need to raise their intake amounts. Ryan's growing alcohol habit proves that he depends physically on drinking which makes his addiction worse.

After only 8 hours without alcohol Ryan develops shaking and anxiety symptoms that show his addictive behavior. His body needs alcohol as shown through the symptoms listed in Chapter 9. The body of someone addicted to substances face extensive difficulty during withdrawal because they need the substance to function properly. Ryan suffers intensified physical symptoms that demonstrate his extreme dependence on alcohol.

Ryan keeps wanting alcohol despite understanding its negative effects and lets it override his need for self-care. The text from Chapter 9 shows his desperate need to use alcohol because he can't control himself. Ryan’s strong urge to drink demonstrates how addiction takes control of the mind and makes recovery very hard to achieve.

Ryan stops paying attention to his community ties and duties because he wants alcohol more than anything else. Addiction influences someone to ignore work responsibilities and disconnect from social contacts according to Chapter 9. The way Ryan keeps himself alone and fails to connect with others shows how alcohol abuse destroys both his life and his connections.
