Summary Women's Rights

Women were not given the rights that they had this day back then. Women couldn't vote, didst have the freedom of speech, couldn't have their own stuff when they were married, were allowed to be abused by their husbands, and etc. To summarize, women barely had political and legal rights. Because of this all, women wanted to make a change about their rights.
So Mott and Santon who is the daughter of a judge, had made a decision to hold a convention in New York that was called the Seneca Falls Convention. This was a national women's rights convention. Soon there was the Declaration of Sentiments on the Declaration of Independence. At the convention women demanded suffrage. Plus some Abolitionist approved the convention as well. The convention also marked the women's rights movement. Many people helped to gain the women's rights. Then soon enough the women started gaining rights. For example, women gained the right to vote by 1920.

The prisons and or jails were not good places to be. The conditions were terrible. Inmates were chained up, locked up with children and adults, abused, barley given any food or water, crowded areas, plus dark and damp cells. There was even more than that, people that were even good went to jail. Like if they were in debt for just a little bit, they were thrown in jail. Or if they had a mental illness like seizures or something that they didn't know how to deal with, they would throw them in jail.
So that's when someone that goes by the name of
Dorothea Dix came in to place. She went in to the prison place to teach a Sunday school class, but when she got there, she was shocked about the conditions. So because of her kindness, she decided to take action. She went to different jails to see what it was like and it was the same. So she reported a complaint about the horrible conditions of the prisons. In return, shocked lawmakers made specific mental hospitals for the mentally ill. Plus Dorothea was able to solve other thinks such as, outlawing cruel punishments, discontinuing of debtors' prisons, and the creation of a special justice system for children.
