The Maya was a civilization that lived in present day Guatemala, Honduras, Belize, and El Salvador. The Maya created two calendars, one calendar to record religious events and another calendar to record season and agriculture. They were also the first civilization to use the concept of zero. The Maya used sinkholes year round to collect rainwater for their crops. They used what is called the three sisters which is three different crops, squash, corn, and beans. Maize was said to be one of the most important crops. The Maya had aleggably believed that the gods controlled everything so royal families and nobles would draw their own blood to please the gods and sometimes they even used human sacrifices. The Maya civilization collapsed at about 900 C.E. It is likely that the Maya civilization collapsed because of drought, war, or erosion. (The image displayed below is a picture of one of the many Maya cities called Tikal.)

One of the many Aztec cultures is a game called ullamaliztli (I found a lot of names for it! hope this one is correct). ullamaliztli is A simple game sorta like modern day soccer. The ball was around ten pounds, and the goal is to use your hips and thighs to hit the ball into the hoops. The game was a social gatherings event, and is believed that the game was associated with the god Huitzilopochtli (Sun god). The losers' of the game where sometimes sacrificed in gruesome ways, and the winners get to survive.

Objects were made such as bowls and tools. simple items used to preform tasks to aid the community. some of these items were more important however. Some Mayan made tools were specifically for religious things and some were simply decorated to look like something. These tools might include simple farm equipment to masks / hats and even weapons.

The Maya were an advanced civilization that lived in modern- day southern Mexico, through Guatemala, Honduras, Belize, and El Salvador and into Nicaragua. The earliest Mayan settlements start around 1800 B.C, the earliest Maya were agricultural, growing crops such as corn, beans, squash and cassava. During the Middle Classic Period (lasted 'till 300 B.C) the Maya farmers began to expand their farmland both in the highland and lowland regions. They also got to see the evolution of other early civilizations like the Olmec. The Maya derived a lot of Religious and cultural traits as well, they also developed things like a number system and their famous calendar. They also started more advanced cultural traditions with pyramids. The golden age of the Maya empire was the classic period which began around 250 A.D and ended around 900 A.D. The maya had advanced so much during these time periods that they had around 40 cities that they created including: Tikal, Uaxactún, Copán, Bonampak, Dos Pilas, Calakmul, Palenque and Río Bec; each city held a population of between 5,000 and 50,000 people. They had plazas, palaces, temples and all kinds of advanced structures. The Maya built their temples in a stepped-pyramid shape, and decorating them with inscriptions and oth4er decorations. The Maya were very religious, and worshiped various gods related to nature, including the gods of the sun, the moon, rain and corn. The Maya also made huge advancements in mathematics and astronomy. They had the concept of zero and complex calendars. They also made a hieroglyphic writing system. They learned how to make paper out of tree bark. The decline of the Mayan civilization is a mystery. There are theories of droughts or warfare, but no one knows for sure.

The ancient civilizations and cultures of native America were very unique, and different than many things we do today. From how they stored food to how they performed special ceremonies. For example, the Mayan peoples' culture was centered and completely dependent on religion, like the sacrificial rituals they performed to appease the gods, and that they believed their origin was from maize, or corn. The Aztec were another group or tribe of ancient civilization, who are known for their innovative agricultural decisions, like starting irrigation systems, terrace farming, and Chinampas, or tiny islands they used to grow crops.
