I did not decide that I wanted to pursue a career in this field until I got to college, however, when I completed a child development course at Miramar College. This experience helped me discover my passion for helping others and recognize the need for continued growth. I transferred to Point Loma Nazarene University after two years and completed my Bachelor of Arts in Child Development during the Fall 2021 term. During this time, I got the chance to engage with a diverse group of peers in the Adult Degree Completion (ADC) program. This prompted me to switch my career path to higher education because I wanted to help adult students achieve their goals. I have also seen over the years that a college education can drastically improve an individual's employment prospects, depending on their field of choice. College graduates typically have a higher earnings potential than their peers. According to the Social Security Administration (SSA), "Men with bachelor's degrees earn approximately $900,000 more in median lifetime earnings than high school graduates. Women with bachelor's degrees earn $630,000 more." One of my favorite aspects of my higher education experience is that it has given me the opportunity to see the world through a greater lens. This helped me discover my passion for inclusion and serving others.
