         <description><![CDATA[<div>- Erick, Lirisbeth, Yadira <br>Who: Labor Activists <br>What: Riot caused by a bomb thrown at police<br>When: May 4th 1886<br>Where: Chicago (Haymarket Square)<br>Why: Fighting for the right of a 8 hour workday <br> <br>It all started on May 4th 1886 as a peaceful protest. The labor activists were made up of radicals which believed the capitalist system should be dismantled.Police arrived to disperse the people but the peaceful protest turned into a riot when an unidentified individual threw a a bomb at the police officers. 7 of the radicals were believed to be part of the bombing of which four were hanged, one committed suicide and the other 2 were sentenced to life in prison  </div>]]></description>

It was a conflict between Carnegie Steel Company and the Amalgamated Association of Iron and Steel Workers. It happened because the company proposed a wage cut, and the workers didn't like that, so they went on strike and it resulted in the Homestead Massacre.<br><br><br><br><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>Knights Of Labor </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Paris, Michael, and Dani <br>         The Knights of Labor was founded in 1869, it was an secret organization, made up of tailors in Philadelphia. The objectives was to get 8 hour work days, abolition of child labor, equal labor and taxes. They began as a strong Protestants organization, but later became open to every worker (no matter race, sex, skills, nationality) anyone could join (but not lawyers, bankers, gamblers and saloon keepers). In 1885 the Knights of Labor claimed to have 700,000 members. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>By: Nery, Nick, and Mark<br><br>The labor movement gained lots of strength by the 1850's in areas like typographers, molders, and carpenters. Standards of apprenticeship and of wages, hours, and working conditions were made better. Although the agreements often broke down in periods of depression, a strong group of unions had developed by the 1880's so that a central federation was on the rise. This was the start of the American Federation of Labor.&nbsp;<br><br><br></div>]]></description>
