In esso si trovano non solo tematiche interessanti per discussioni in classe, ma anche tanti spunti per giocare con le parole, usando i rimandi nascosti dietro ai nomi, le numerose metafore e le invenzioni linguistiche. La magia, in primo luogo, è metafora perfetta per spiegare ai bambini quanto nella vita sia presente sia il positivo che il negativo in ogni azione che compiamo.Harry Potter è la scoperta di più generi letterari in uno (descrittivo, epistolare, fantasy, avventuroso, ironico, biografico, fiabesco, realistico) che si mescolano in una trama complessa ma perfettamente concatenata, nella quale un semino gettato nelle prime pagine lo si ritroverà pianta alla fine del primo libro o addirittura in uno successivo, grazie ad un piccolo dettaglio che permette di richiamarlo alla mente immediatamente.
