One of the main things that make me different is the fact that I am not from this country, so I have lots of different feelings about how I should live. Additionally, I have a really free spirited mother who never tried to make me be one way or another. She taught me to be independent, and think for myself, which I believe has gotten me very far. I am teaching the same ideas to my children too. I don't want them to every think they aren't "cool" because they don't do the same things as other kids, or don't look the same.

Friday 05/23/2025 Jalen avoided the mirror as he got ready for school, tugging his hoodie over his head to hide the parts of himself he didn’t like. He thought his ears stuck out too much, his skin wasn’t clear enough, and his clothes never looked right. At school, he kept his head down, sure that everyone else had it all figured out. What he didn’t realize was that his quiet strength, sense of humor, and loyalty made him stand out in ways that truly mattered.
