firstly, usually the videos for homework, or you should note that you will have to assign anything. Many of my students to watch them at home, you do not have enough time in class to watch the video to find. the days so, for whatever reason, you will receive some homework to do to make a video for him not knowing that you can assign. Education 'whack-a-mole' approach is ineffective, we found that students do not punish. Students need to take responsibility for their learning and ultimately to see the value of the video. They make them more efficient and useful for the activities of the class and the students value them because I don't want to fall behind the videos. they haven't watched the video, they often find it difficult to work together in order to provide fully operational and you may find that you need to rely on other students for guidance.

Edmodo is a "social learning platform" website for teachers, students, and parents. It is marketed as the Facebook for schools. I use Edmodo to upload the link to my math videos. This allows easy access for the parents and the students.

The warm up step, towacht a video or to do a lot questions, can try to implement a flipped classroom model.
The challenge that I see in the flipped method is that the kids at the debriefing moment they can review the process learning. In this moment the teacher can show themselves trough the video recording of their work. According to me it is the most important moment, but give them the conceptual framework is the second important step, because the kids take awareness, try the solution, he/she ask why? How? ant they say at the teacher a lot questions..

I often use the flipped classroom methodology with my students and they are very enthusiastic. I teach in a Secondary School and created a virtual class using the site www.fidenia.com, I share videos taken from youtube where they can see explanations about maths theory. Flipped Classroom would be fine but it is important to take into account some aspects, for example the age of the pupils and the type of content that will have to be teached. In DK we have more programs which is usefull for a "flipped maths classroom"
Short movies explain the tasks to the students, and they can all ways go back and watch the movie once again, if they did not understand to begin with. The problem is, that this way of teaching must be learned - only the students who are responsible take advantage. But then the teacher have "free hands" to be around those who only work if somebody stands beside them :o)
With screenomatic - a free online program -
the students can film themselves while they explain what they do.

I got to know the flipped classroom and experience it in a third class whose subject was, however, in history. The use of this method of teaching has been well received by the students, but not everyone has a computer at home and then some of them could do research on the web. As for math I think the flipped classroom is a little more difficult to apply because some mathematical concepts are a little more complex for the boys.

I am carefully considering beginning the practice of flipping the classroom. I did it because in many Italian resources you can find only how to calculate or solve something and for me is very important students understand the reason why that specific algorithm works.

Sometimes I use the TedEd resources for the CLIL project, Raiscuola resources …. But there’s a problem and I don’t really know how to solve it: until now it has been difficult that kids watched the resources, they are convinced it’s a facultative activity and many don’t do it

I have not used real flipped classroom yet. First, we have to be sure that all students have access to computer, that is not always the case. Then, there are some students (at least my students) that are not willing to do any sort of homework, which is obligatory part of flipped classroom. I usually give them some group work to do, and then we discuss their solutions at school. It is not real flipped classroom, but it might be close to it.

I trained on this methodology and have to say that the possibilities are many, not only refer to use / support technological means but without the same (since despite being digital natives there are still excluded percentages / s) but on returning to resources as well as Khan Academy there are a number of additional supports just think of the video on youtube, to platforms such as Edmodo and Zanichelli, Mondadori and others that put a lot of material for all age groups. With this methodology, each student becomes component / participant / active student learns to lavorareinsieme (we recommend from groups formed by pupils 2 / and then gradually move to three and then gradually) .At the teacher prompted to schedule well in advance what He wants to pursue, preparing homework and above all be open to discussion and debate.

I call my method Flipped Learning (FL). It is quite similar to Flipped Classroom (FC). But the students have more freedom to decide their own speed of learning.

Students in Greece and I think in most Europeans countrries are not English, so how can they watch videos from Khan Academy or ucubed and understand them when they find difficulties understanding math in their mother language???

I heard once about flipped classroom but I didn´t quite understand what it was. Now I think I begin to understand and of course I never used this model. I think for this, students must have acess to computers (tablets or others) and many only can acess these tools at school (in the school ICT room that is not available without a teacher present). Teachers must also have a course because they are not prepared for this. So it's not easy to implement this model but I think is a very good process to make students more engaged.

In Portugal, all the books editors make many useful apps (most of them in geogebra) and videos to explaine some subjets. We also have khan academy, in portuguese, but we cannot use inglish videos, as our students are not all good in inglish.
I used to make some powerpoint presentations an flipsharts to use in the interactiv board. But as the nacional maths program is changing a lot, I no longer use my oldest stuff...

Flipped maths clasroom it is very interesting. I never implement and for my elementary class/students, they must have a different way of working in every matters/sbujects as they work today.
What I am thinking is : if they have all the gadgets, do you think I can implement in my math classroom and work in a different way of the rest of the teachers? In my opinion I don't think it is possible. Programs are always changing and parents are focused on the exams.
But I recognize that's the way we have to improve in ours shcools and I'm going to make the way.

Great Idea. But It's far from the reality: Schools should provide devices for each student. And students should have the possibility to have a free internet access also out of school. (I'm thinking to a public school and opened to everybody, of course)

I haven't a lot of experiences about the flipped learning but from some months i m trying to understand better its laws and how do it in my classes. Although it's difficult in my school context applied this way to do school, i think it's possible in time. So i'm trying to start to use it although with a semplified version. in my class we are working on a project in which students have to do a law. So we have given some informations with video and then they are deciding the way to make groups and how produce the law. We are using You tube, Rai scuola.tv, Sway and padlet to writw their ideas.

There are many ways of mentoring students in their work at home and in class using new technologies. So with Google Drive can send lessons, worksheets for home or classroom lessons, presentations, movies and even can apply questionnaires that students can complete anywhere. I use ScreencastOMatic to record video, sometimes some videos by an Italian book publisher or by Khan Academy or PSSC (for Physics). In eTwinning projects I also use partners videos to share knowledge. I loved Flipped Classroom approach but I really learned how to use it in my classes last September attending to a meetingof Italian eTwinning ambassadors: two teachers who are using this approach with their classes gave me the fundamental hint of asking students to prepare a mind map every time they watch a video. I think this is very useful so the teacher realizes if students understand the meaning of the video and they are tutored. Correcting maps is easy for teachers, so students can have a quite immediate feedback about their learning. And they are more encouraged to learn and work in the classroom discussions.

Some problems to implement this model: some students doesnt have computer or internet at home; the number of computers or tablets on school is reduced.

I don't agree with the idea of a flipped classroom at all. The teacher cannot be replaced by some faceless video without the interaction of a class during classroom presentations. Especially this goes for high school students. The ict use should be used for providing additional exercises or related videos generally for additional resources or instant feedback from the teacher. Besides, which student (except some very very very small minority) is going to read by himself material which will be taught in the future ...?

The flipped classroom is a method that I've used in Italian and I think that may well be also used in mathematics, but not in classes of primary school because they must first learn the basic rules of mathematics and then the lesson upside down.

It's a good way to teach and learn. i've had a little experience about flipped classroom last year and it was very good. my students were enthusiastic . It's a very motiving way to learn and the studentsseem focused on what they are doing. I often send on Edmodo my videos. I prefer to explain my students the lessons, so I prepare my videos at home and send them on virtual class.

Wish I had that classroom :-) That would be Heaven on Earth. One of the problems with technology is the access to it, in school or at home. Students can be placed in disadvantaged situations. I liked the idea of flipped classroom but see some constraints and I guess that both students and teachers must be “educated” for it. But the idea is here germinating.

This week I used flipped classroom to approach Pythagorean theorem. The feedback from the students was very good, they were really motivated and liked the experience. Of course those students with greater difficulty in math have less autonomy and need the help of their colleagues.
The videos from Khan Academy are very helpfull to implement flipped classroom

I like the model of Flipped Maths Classroom very well and I use it in class. Taking care that all my students have mobiles sometimes we look for certain videos with the explanation in Khan Academy or Youtube.
We choose two or three of the best or clearer and then those links I upload them to the class blog, so they can review them or follow them whenever they need them

I have started to use flipped classroom since this year. I'm trying this new kind of methodology and my first impressions are very positive. Pupils seem much involved and in classroom they can work together in a much more active way.
I'm using Edmodo as the main resource. I usually upload youtube videos, matematicamente's videos and Prezi's presentations for more.

I believe that this method is revolutionary because it puts students at the center of the learning process. students are the real drivers of them know that they share with the other comrades. the teacher is a facilitator but not a vehicle of knowledge and this is beautiful but requires impegno.io use it often and I have to admit that the results are far better than in traditional lecture

In a course about flipped classroom I have just made (focused on English teaching, but not only) we explored the potential of videos on the web, maybe don't made for teaching, but anyway very useful.

Otherwise you can do your materials... I've never use it, but for example a tool to make your own lessons could be Movenote

I find this approach very powerful, but you need to have children with the possibility to have devices and the connection. To give materials I often use the USB memory keys, but only few kids have their one.

Sometimes I use the video in teaching mathematics. These are usually the videos that i found on the internet.
Also, I think that a stand-alone operation with a book is a way of flipped class. Then I replace the role with one or with a group of students and become one of them. The student individually or in a group of others present the material to me and other students and then we all together discussing the topic.

I have been using flipped math metodology since last year. Usually I use Edmodo platform. I put video there to introduce a real problem to my students, then I propose a collaborative work in the classroom trying to solve the problem. Finally each group propose their solution and then I give the rigorous theorem etc...

I've been hearing about flipped classroom technique since last year when I started my teaching career. I'm naturally enthusiastic about new things and ways of doing things but I have some difficulties in applying this to my classes. Just some critical points in my experience:

Students don't like home work and don't like to think too much.
In an average class half of the students will try not to do what I asked and try to cheat to hide it
There are less resources in italian language than in english and making videos and materials costs a lot of time
High school is not the best place to start this kind of revolution: students are already accustomed to the "old" way of teaching
Students have great confidence in technology but using a smartphone is far from using a PC to make a presentation or to build a spreadsheet. These skills are taught during first to high school years but rapidly forgotten.

Anyway last year I used GeoGebra a lot as a tool to explore, and in the class feature but is not usable in an extended way (i.e for all the classes in the long period). I had a look to Google Classroom that is more than promising but I had not the opportunity to test directly.

I've never used this approach in teaching maths. One challenge I see at this moment is to find/ create good instructional videos. There are plenty of EN language videos, but this is not enough if we want to make sure that students understand the concepts.

I've added all my students into KhanAcademy classrooms for last few years and although it's in English they can work on some Mastery Challenge. But we also have a lot of youtube video's in Icelandic about explaining math and in my school we have had written explanation for students to look at.

I like the idea of letting students responsible of their own learning and at a certain point I also agree of considering the teacher as a facilitator instead of a transmissor of content....but as everything, it's important to get a balance among all of these different and challenging approaches and have a mix of them ithout being "fanatics" of one or some of them. I think that the teacher has to be an important referee for the students, even though not the only one: technology and films don't replace any human person in presence.

I had a chance to study the flipped classroom during an online course of the Eurpean Schoolnet Academy. It was very interesting, but personally it did not convince me. First of all I do not find it a suitable method for children of primary school because math has to be manipulative especially at this age, and let the kids watch a video at home and then work on it in class, does not seem functional : we can look the video together, but I prefer to start from a practical work immediately, not from a job preceded by a movie.
