Opportunities for education include teaching kids to think on their feet and improvise. The examples given at the beginning of the article were a technique called 'assumption reversal', where you take a common assumption and assume the exact opposite, and a technique that involves the child reading a topic on a note card and talking about it for 60 seconds. Opportunities for kindness include volunteering to help the NHS and making kindness a more sustainable part of society. A study of medical students showed that while selfish students had good grades at first, kinder students had better grades as the years went on. I haven't encountered any opportunities for learning and kindness yet.
Tesla Larocque

The world suffering under the reign of the Coronavirus may seem like a very strange place to live in, however, there is some good that has come out of all this. For instance, while many have to help their kids learn from home, others have used this time to help teach their kids about other life things that the school curriculum doesn't teach. Something else that has come out of a seemingly hopeless situation is that people take advantage of their free time and volunteer for the public schools. In the United Kingdom, over 700,000 people volunteered to help the NHS, which was met with thunderous applause.
-Austin Maurer™

Despite the crisis in the world, you can cope by focusing on what you can do. Education is different, now that students have to remain at home to do their school work. Though teaching has changed, you can find your own ways to teach kids. Like focusing on the small areas that teachers put aside and can't really teach because of time. For example, talking and speaking in front of people. A surge of kindness can also have an impact during the pandemic. More than 700,000 in the UK stepped forward to help the NHS. These opportunities haven't really presented them to me. Because education for me right now is like having more homework, because there's no physical work involved unlike in classrooms. Like presenting things and stuff.
Aibel Lejarde

The corona virus has turned the bad to good. We are able to get education and kindness through this crisis. Learning from home is hard. However, learning about the skills of life after school are easier. We are learning how to be problem solvers and take more responsibility. While at home, with more down time because we are not at school, we can learn new things other than the classes at school. We can learn how to be creative. If you want to learn something other than what you learn everyday at school, then now is the time. Kindness has also been taught. Doctors are sacrificing hundreds of hours to protect our society and to help us through this pandemic. They are learning how to become givers rather than takers.
Mason Davis

Despite the troubling disease spreading throughout the world the are still opportunities to learn and grow from this as both students and people. Education wise this can if the effort is put forth learn about different things we otherwise wouldn't be able too at this time in school ,or even put forth the extra effort to learn more about current subjects. It also will give us the chance to practice and better ourselves in other ways education wise such as with the Mother having her daughter turn over cards and them speaking about the topic on the card for sixty seconds. Kindness wise is a little different than studying for obvious reasons people express can express kindness in different ways but this pandemic can be used to show all those ways from helping others by directly by giving supplies ,or something more broad in who it helps by donating to a charity. For me personally have done research and learned more about different subjects . . . like how diseases evolve and spread. Being home all the time has allowed me to practice my art skills and be creative with different styles and mediums.
Kaden Hill

The coronavirus is allowing for more education opportunities that are hard to teach in normal curriculum. Parents and teachers are using techniques like reversal thinking to teach their kids things they need in the real world, like improvisation and failing. Kindness also appears when more and more are focusing on helping others, such as the 700,00 volunteers to help the NHS in the UK.
Zach Orvis

The coronavirus has caused good and bad opportunities. Bad, most people have had to adjust to new ways of living. Good, teachers and students are learning to ways to teach and learn. This will be good for the future just in case we have a similar event later in life. This also gives students an opportunity to do their schoolwork when is more convenient for them.
Meredith Semenza

There are, of course, many ways that this pandemic has limited us, but there are also new opportunities being reveled. one of these opportunities is in our education. Us not being able to go to school gives us a new goal, which "isn't to stop kids imbuing formal knowledge, but to find ways to supplement this with other skills." Kindness also has a role in this. As we care for and support each other, we are succeeding much more as a whole. The article supports this by stating how "people with a giving approach are flourishing in a world of interdependence." The opportunity in education has been presented to me, and I feel that I am taking advantage of our situation, and I am adapting well.

~Riley Walters

As I had mentioned in my previous post, good things can come from bad situations. This global problem has figuratively brought people together (social distancing) in kindness to fight this pandemic. People have also had to plan what groceries to buy, how much to buy, and how long until they should head to the store, I think that counts as education. As for my situations at home, I have been spending some more time with my family. We go on walks, watch movie, and just talk about whatever comes to our mind, like the existence of Bigfoot. I'm not sure if the pandemic has made any of us nicer, but it has given us an opportunity to enjoy each other more.
Teige Hansen

The world right now is at a pause. With that pause we have to overcome obstacles and we can overcome the obstacles by learning new ways to educate and sharing kindness. The education part is difficult because we can't be in a classroom and learn from our teachers face to face but people are finding new ways to get an education. Kindness is a big part of overcoming this pandemic because we are in an uncertain time and everyone is scared but there are people rising up and helping each other out. - Alex bloomgren

These months are hard with the disease but its also a time to educate yourself on new things. We are educating ourselves on how to work from the internet and also educating ourselves on how this disease works. Kindness is a big thing and we all need to show it especially in times like this. You can show kindness by helping your kid or siblings with there homework or you can show support to local businesses by ordering food. kindness is vary much needed in times like this with everyone being alone and also with people on the front lines trying to help the sick.
MacGwyer Palmer

While reading the article the author presented substitutes to traditional learning and how kindness is as transferable as the virus it's self. During my time in quarantine I have not dove in depth enough as I should have into my own education. I think that that is partly due to the fact that I lazy. But now the kindness factor, I have not been presented or looked for a way to aid my fellow man during this pandemic. I have simply accepted the fact that the virus is spread through interpersonal contact, and that me keeping my distance would be more helpful to people than taking action. As I have no drivers licence I could not perform some of the basic things that you would expect someone to do, such as delivering groceries. That is why I have simply chosen to remain in quarantine.
Duncan Herring

During this halt from our everyday lives we have all had to readjust. There are so many ways our world has had to readjust like for example school, online school can be difficult but also easy. For some kids it's harder to understand the concept and for some they don't have access to a computer or internet. Kindness should be playing a huge role in this halt because everyone is worried about getting it or know people who have it. I think people should be more understanding even though there's a pandemic going on, and some people are going out of their way to help people in need, but some people are being selfish and only worrying about themselves which isn't a bad thing but I feel like they should be more understanding. Even though we have to social distance (6 ft) or stay home some people are still going out of their way to help people in need and that is one reason on why kindness plays a big role in this pandemic.
Autumn Messimer

The author describes that kindness is forming throughout the society caused by the virus and people have been very helpful.

Because of all the drastic changes going on that are so unfamiliar right now, we have to try and fine new ways to keep active, learn and everything else in our daily life. These times of learning may be extra difficult. Many children may be having a hard time trying to learn and educate themselves through a screen at home instead of being interactive in the classroom. Kindness and patience will be a big part of getting through this pandemic. For example, in the UK more than 700,000 volunteers have stepped forward to help the NHS, which is known as the national health service. Many people are also inspiring others to try and help out more, weather its donating food, helping the sick, or even just staying away from people in general can be the most helpful. We all need to work together to fight this virus.
Rikki Trigg

The author starts this article with the facts we already know, the Corona Virus has devastated our entire world. Although, there may be some good to come. The Corona has began to open up new opportunities in our lives. Teachers are trying their hardest to keep students on the path to success over the internet, but this gives us time to realize there is more to life than just getting a job and so forth. We have been experiencing other real world problems that sometimes teachers find hard to represent in a classroom. Some topics for discussion are, improvisation, procrastination, over coming failure, and much more. With the world being in as much chaos as it is, we could all use a little bit of care and kindness. Thankfully, we have volunteers stepping forward everyday to help our world. It could be donations, volunteer work, or even just keeping a safe distance from people. This pandemic is really starting to show who we are as a world.
Mason LaPlante
