Repetition in music is a combination of elements that make up a rhythm that are being repeated. Ratliff describes repetition as something that is "about music itself, and therefore a little more about humankind alone." I agree with this because when you have a something that is constant and consistent the variations in the music are exemplified. Ratliff talks about the song, Four Organs and says that I is one chord and then slowly switched to another , "changing the implications". These chords are repeated throughout the entire piece which is how this is an example of repetition. A song that I know of that was not mentioned in the reading is called Bongo Bong by Manu Chao. Throughout the song the instruments play the same melody over and over again. This makes the lyrics and the melody that he sings stands out a lot being that the background music doesn't change but his melody does.

“People assume that repetition is always a static thing, but I beg to differ. Repetition is just as often the complete opposite of that: or a sign of rapid personal growth. In this repetition manifests one's ability to go on experiencing again the very same thing from a different perspective and in a brand-new light.”
-
