         <description><![CDATA[<div>In 2007 a fatal shooting of a Ramapough man by a ranger with NJ State park because of blatant discrimination. This had started the harsh separation between the members of the tribes and the people of the towns. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Conflict started in 2016, the township first issued summoned against the Ramapough's on Dec 13 2016. They were summoned because they did not get the permits or permission before constructing the structures such as 15 ft tall tepees, several tents, several totem poles and a cooking pavilion.</div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>On December 15th the Superior Court judge, Charles Powers, denied the injunction. The club had tried to prevent the tribe from conducting various activities on the 95 Halifax Road property, which is near the club. The tribe used the property and had named it, Sweet Water Prayer Site for generations for various religious and ceremonial services but now the Club Polo does not want them to. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Tribe filed a 12 count federal lawsuit against the township in May 2018. The Ramapough claim in their complaints that their 1st and 14th Amendment of the Constitution were violated and the town had illegal fined them. In conclusion, the ruling was that they had to pay the fine but they were permitted to continue to use the property for religious purposes. </div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The tribe had defended themselves by stating that the property next to the Club Polo had been used for generations for various religious and ceremonial services. They called it the Sweet Water Prayer Site. The tribe also wanted $1 million in compensatory and punitive damages and $480,000 in fines declared null and void and a declaration made that they have right to assembly and engage in prayer meetings. The nation also accused the Ramapo Hunt &amp; Polo Club Homeowners Association of trying to intimidate the tribe to stop holding open-air prayer sessions on sacred ground.</div>]]></description>
