Club Foot is a deformity in which the sole of the foot cannot be placed flat on the ground. It is often the result of polio. It is a fairly common birth defect and half of the newborn babies that have club foot generally have it in both feet.👟👞
Though the cause in unknown, doctors say some factors include genetics and the environment of the pregnant mother before the baby is born.👶🏽🍼
Doctors begin treatment on the newborn around two weeks after its birth. The goal is to prevent any complications before they are able to walk. Due to the flexibility of newborn babies, doctors will stretch the baby's foot to the correct position, cast it, and then reposition it once a week. In severe cases, surgery may be necessary. 🚑🏥
