Simulated practices, for example conditioned games, this replicates elements of a competitive game that the coach it trying to work on. Example a coach may run a drill in football where there is more attackers than defenders and the aim of the session is to work on counterattacking or scoring, however the coach may adapt the rules, size of the pitch, this is to support the development of the specific skill the drill is about.

Goal setting is a key technique when it comes to being a good coach because it allows the coach to set objectives to a player and they are able to work with the player to find how they are going to achieve these objectives in order to, by the end of the training session they will have achieved there aim, which means that they have improved it the sport that they are participating in. an example of a goal that may be set by a participant is that for an Olympic runner they should try and reduce their time. however a target must be SMART which means Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time bound.

A coach may have to adapt a training session or drill due to the ability of an individual player. For example a football coach would have to adapt a passing drill to suit the ability of all his players. This could be done by creating different drills that require a different level of skill.

Technical instruction is when a coach gives single players advice of their weaknesses this is a key technique for a good coach to use in their training session because if a coach doesn't teach a player how to improve then they won't get any better. For a coach to be good at technical instruction they need to have a good knowledge of the sport to be able to see how the players can improve. After the coach has discovered the players weaknesses they can plan their sessions around the weakness. For example, If a players weakness was their passing skills then the coach should set up a drill that focusses on passing.

is when a coach analyses the performance of an athlete so that they can further identify the strength and weaknesses of the performer. this will benefit the performer and the team because they can then focus on the weaknesses and improve them to help their overall performance. the coach then needs to help the athlete focus on their own weaknesses in order to push the performer to their full capability in order to achieve the standards they have to work up to.
