American Imperialism, 1893-1914

We first started by taking over Hawaii and than ended it after finishing the Panama canal.

Imperialism was very popular at this time with other countries. Our country needed more land in more places for better protection and better expansion. We took over Hawaii, Guatemala, the Philippines, Cuba, Puerto Rica and Panama.

The Spanish-American War. April 21, 1898-December 10, 1898

During this time Cuba was fighting Spain in order to gain independence. We joined the war and helped Cuba fight against Spain. In the end we won against Spain and were officially known as a world power, and after the war we annexed Cuba.

Propaganda in World War I, 1914-1918

Used throughout the war but mainly used in the beginning, before the draft.

Propaganda was often seen on posters that were placed throughout the country where they could be seen. The posters often contained words and images that put down the other side of the war to convince people to want to be part of the war. This propaganda was also used to convince men to be a part of the draft and sign up.

U.S. Involvement in World War I, April 6, 1917-The end of the war

We got involved in 1917 and we stayed involved through the rest of the war.

We as Americans originally did not want to be involved in the war. However after being threatened, attacked, and forcefully involved we decided it would be better to help fight the war.

The Treaty of Versailles, June 28, 1919

The end of the war

All the world leaders in the world came together in paris and came to an agreement of "peace". however Germany wasn't included in it and the treaty was sent to them to take responsibility for the war or have it continue. Germany gave in and signed and the end of the war was declared.

The Home Front During World War I, 1914-1918

During world war one our home from back in America developing new ways to involve people in the war, conserve energy, and gain materials. New laws and organizations were being made in the U.S. so people wouldn't join or think about joining the opposing side. Factories were being ordered by these organizations to produce materials for the war. Automobile factories were sometimes ordered to stop making cars and instead build tanks. The concept of daylight savings was first brought up in order to save an hour of energy to go to the war instead.

During the start of WWI

After deciding that we were going to join the war, we realized that we didn't know how we were going to put together an army since our military still wasn't great. The government decided that our best option was to draft the men of America to join the war to gain our army.

The Spanish Flu, 1918-1919

Near the end of WWI

The Spanish flu was a virus that went around the world during the war and killed nearly 50 million people. This illness affected both sides of the war and was thought to shorten the war by a few years because everyone was struggling so much with this illness.
