PERSONALLY, I think there are only 2 types of reliable sources - documented media, and scholarly journal publications.

I think it's ok to use all kinds of sources because it gives a more realistic picture of the situation - particularly in social issues.

I'm old-fashioned, I like books because I like to hold paper and write notes in the margins. It is also easier to cite books, and sometimes you can contact the authors for clarification. AS FOR ME?  I think any kind of source is appropriate for a research paper as long as it is well-cited and gives a clear argument.

I agree with the first comment - only scholarly journals can be trusted.
