Man is naturally selfish and cruel.

- The big example of men being selfish and cruel in "Of Mice and Men" is obviously when George kills Lennie. George did not HAVE to kill Lennie but some people would say "he knew what would happen is he didn't do what he did" but did he really know? Yes, he had an idea but he did not know if they could have gotten out of that situation or not.

- I also think that Curly is being selfish when Lennie kills his wife. I feel this because once he finds her all he wants to do is kill Lennie himself not thinking about how they can be effected factory wise and losing more people than they already have. Although sparing him and locking him up was mentioned he still wanted to kill him.

Nature is different to mans needs.

- The first example of this is when George and Lennie were on the bus and they got dropped off earlier than they should have and then they had to walk the rest of the way to. Normally a bus would not randomly make you get off. In this case though, the bus driver would be nature because Lennie and George needed to get somewhere and nature, the bus driver, couldn't provide.

- Another example is how the mice and all the other animals Lennie likes to pet does not like him petting them because he pets them too hard. They either bite or end up dying and this is basically the one thing Lennie had in his life, besides George, to make him feel comfortable.

Man behaves indistinctly to environment

- One example is how Crooks is to his room. Slavery is not a thing at this time but they are still just not equal. So, Crooks is the only black one there and as we can see he is obviously scared of the white men there. He acts indistinctly to the men because of his circumstance and race. The men are nature in this case.

- Another example is Lennie. Lennie changes a little but in the middle of the book. The way he changes is because when George gives him the run-down of how to behave and act at their new job. He does change his act until the very end. I feel like this is good to go under this topic because in the beginning Lennie wasn't all that good at his old job and he indistinctly changed his behavior to the environment.

Mans goal is to survive

- The first example is in the beginning how George and
Lennie had to run from their old job because Lennie had ripped a girls dress and they were in danger of being tracked and killed. Notice how they didn't stop for anything and their first instinct was to run because they knew they were in danger and it was their first thought which proves mans first goal is to survive.

- In conclusion, another way mans goal is to survive is when Lennie killed Curley's wife. Although he did eventually get killed his first instinct was to run because he already knew what would happen if he stayed. This is a prime example because he knew that he HAD to run in order to survive and thats the first thing that came to mind.
