The love canal incident is a disaster that took place between 1942-1953. The hooker electrochemical company used the love canal abandoned landfill to dispose over 21,000 tons of hazardous chemicals.

During the past winters, it was very wet and raised the water table which caused the chemicals to leach.

The whole community was ordered to be moved out by president Carter. The people who lived at the love canal had an option to move away and have their houses purchased by the government at a fair market price.

Several hundred residents within one block and nearly 3,000 residents within about four blocks from the love canal land.

There were 725 deaths due to the incident.

Due to the many, many, years of dumping toxic chemicals it harmed hundreds of healthy people. Most cases were serious and extreme and had long-term health problems.

Blue collar workers were mainly affected and the close residents who could and/or did not move out. Blue collar workers are manual workers meaning they work at factories or other jobs that involve working at an office.

Damages-

There were serious health damages to many people including, epilepsy, asthma, migraines, and nephrosis. Women who carry have high rates of miscarriages and birth defects.
