Review 2 The short film “Ngutu”, shot by Daniel Valledor in 2012, is set in Madrid. The actor Malcom Sité plays the role of Ngutu. It tells the story of a Senegalese guy who, to live, is obliged to try to sell newspapers on the street, but without much success because of the colour of his skin and his status of immigrant. That’s why, he hatches a plan not to be seen by passersby. Ngutu turns into an anonymous “newspaper distributor” which passers are more willing to use because they do not recognize his identity. The themes tackled in this short film are racism and immigration. The director managed to tell a sad story in an ironic and fun way.

Review 3
Ngutu is a boy coming from Senegal who tries
in vain to sell newspapers. Walking around Madrid,
he realizes that people do not
care much about wasting their money. There are those who buy a newspaper and throw it away after a quick look; there are those who see a coin falling on the ground and do not collect it; there are those who prefer playing slot machines or throwing coins into a fountain. He observes the behaviour of people and understands that they do not like seeing someone who lives begging for alms. So he decides to hide his face and he builds a cabin with a cardboard, and from that moment on, business starts going better. The short film
conveys a very strong message, the director managed to tell a sad story in an ironic and fun way. In fact, passers-by don’t buy newspapers from Ngutu because they prefer avoiding to look at problems like the ones of poverty and immigration
.

I liked the short film because: - it’s realistic - it focuses on racism and immigration - the protagonist is intelligent, ironic and nice -it makes us reflect on diversity

The short film message is:
-many people live showing indifference towards others’ problems
- people are too busy living their own lives to worry about those
who need help
-people should not be judged and ignored only because they have a
different skin colour
-do not surrender to the difficulties of life but strive to find a solution and achieve purpose
-it is not necessary to judge and discriminate immigrants
