As I am getting closer to the finishing line...I am reflecting about What a great journey of learning it has been and really helped me grow professionally. There was a great fear at the beginning to walk on this unknown road but soon became home and full of learning, collaborating with such great educators.

Next, I am looking forward to continue on to Reading Specialist. I am planning to take it soon while things are fresh in my mind from this course. Hopefully I will be able to take it this Fall if things are not too crazy at home or for sure in the Winter.

Assessment -Depth: I would like to look at the ways how I can be on the Reconfigured assessment Pyramid. Assessment as learning is a part of preferred future. Our students have every right to get feedback so they know what is the next step to move forward in their learning. I will co-construct success criteria that clearly guides my students do their work by including the steps. To provide useful instruction and intervention, I will target my reading instruction to a student’s specific weaknesses. I would also like to invest myself into student portfolios and sharing it more often for self and peer assessment.

As I strive to understand and use reading assessment, I think it is very important to consider three questions. First, why do I assess reading? All reading assessment should be conducted with the purpose of helping students achieve in reading. Second, what do I assess when I assess reading? Asking this question allows me to focus on reading program goals and outcomes and what I hope for my students as I teach and support their reading development. Third, how, where, and when do I assess reading? I would remind myself to reflect and ponder more on consideration of the diverse purposes for assessing reading. These purposes include determining students' reading development, informing instruction, demonstrating teacher and school accountability, describing a reading program's strengths and weaknesses, motivating and encouraging students, and teaching students how to self-assess.
