The Education (Additional Support for Learning) (Scotland) Act 2004 (as amended 2009) created the term additional support needs and explains the duties on education authorities to support children and young people’s learning.

All schools and nurseries should have an identified coordinated support plan coordinator who should be overseeing, not necessarily writing and but should be overseeing the coordinated support plans and making sure those dates are in place and that we're following them

Enhanced Digital Support (formerly known as ICT ASL) offers support to schools in the use of technology to support pupils with additional support needs. 

We have collated some of the advice that we have sent to schools so that you can look through the different apps and programs that you can use in your classroom.

On this site, you can download a copy of the EDS Checklist from the document library. This will support you to identify areas of need and possible supports. We predict this will be sufficient for planning digital supports for the majority of pupils. 

For pupils with more complex additional support needs discuss with your EL Digital Development Officer and, if appropriate, please complete the Enhanced Digital Support Referral Form and email it to ELDigital@ea.edin.sch.uk

Included also, are exemplar referral forms to support you.

Please note that Keycomm has been replaced by the AAC Lothian team, please refer to them in the first instance if you require support with Augmentative and Alternative Communication. This can be done through your Speech and Language Therapist. The leaflet for this service can be found in the document library on this site.

We are a small NHS team that supports people with severe communication difficulties by providing hi-tech “AAC” or alternative and augmentative communication systems.

We offer services including assessment and recommendations to users via their local Speech and Language Therapist and we maintain a loan bank which consists of various communication aids and software.

We support children across the Lothians.

Employees must report incidents to their manager or local supervisor as soon as possible, and always before the end of their working day. This is to ensure if any action is needed to protect others that action can be taken right away.

Work-related incidents include

1. Accidents resulting in injury

2. Near misses such where someone could have been injured, but was not work-related ill health, excluding stress and stress related ill health.

All fire and Unwanted Fire Alarm Signals (UFAS) incidents are also to be reported using the myHS platform.

The myHS portal our new system for reporting incidents. Managers (or team leader/supervisor) must record incidents on the myHS portal within 2 working days of the incident occurring.

1. Requests will only require an Assessment of Need, including recent Child Planning Meeting minutes, outlining current strategies (ASL EYT request form is no longer needed.)

2. Requests will now be reviewed monthly, usually the second Thursday of each month.

3. Following the monthly meeting, Georgina Cronin, will email referrers with the team's decision. This may include signposting to resources / training or staff allocation for support.

· Use chunks of language they have heard before. This could be a phrase they often hear, from a programme, film, story or favourite nursery rhyme or song.
· Use long strings of sounds tunefully, almost like they are using their “own” language.
· Show more interest when you use playful melody.
· Are stuck using a bank of single words.
· Replay parts of tv programmes or songs.
