Without Tess is a very appropriate name for this book because Lizzy (the main character) is going through life without her sister Tess who died at age 13. The title grabs the reader's attention because it asks, where is Tess? Why is she gone? The title makes the reader want to read the book. The reader will also fall in love with the authors, Marcella Pixleys writing. With a topic like dealing with death, there still seems to be a new mystery around every corner.

The story goes back to when Tess and Lizzy were between the ages of 5-7 through flashbacks. But the story also is in the present while Lizzy still deals with Tess's death so many years later. This story's time period is present when it is not in the process of showing the reader a flashback, that happened years ago

4 out of 5 Stars!
I really enjoyed this book. The author, Marcella Pixley, makes a book about losing a sister mysterious. To do this she doesn't let the reader know what really happened to Tess until the end. Something it is very interesting, yet is annoying in this story. Throughout the story I really wanted to know what happened to Tess. In this story I did not like how it was hard to tell if it was a flask back or not. Sometimes it was hard to tell with time period we the story was in.

Any reader would be very satisfied with how this book ended. It tied up all loose ends and it shows how Lizzy, and her family, were able to move on so many years later. The story had a very happy ending and any reader would be very happy with how it happened. Although the story closed up all of the loose ends, it didn't exactly tell what would happen to Lizzy is the future. It does foreshadow that she will always remember Tess, and live he life the way she would want and not let the tragedy hold her back anymore.

The theme of this book is to always remember the one we have lost, but to not live in the past. When Lizzy lived in the past she acted differently towards others, but at the end of the story when she broke out of her shell, she was able to show the world what she could really do. Lizzy shows us that remembering our loved ones is very important, but eventually we have to "Bury the dead"
