January 13th, 2020
I have emailed one teacher from Hunter Glen Elementary who used to teach me. She explained to me that she could not fit me into her schedule since she already had someone doing work for their senior summit with her. My next step is to look for another teacher to email about possibly helping them with planning or anything they would need help with. My backup plan to that is to either go with my aunt who is also a teacher at Pomona or go with my mom and help her with some of the projects and plans with preschoolers. It would be beneficial for both of us because I could be getting hours easier since she knows my schedule already. She also would be able to bring home some of the things she needs done which I can do. Throughout all of this it has taught me that teachers do not have as much free time as I thought they would and schedules are really hard to work around.

February 10 2020
I tried one more time at Hunter Glen with my third grade teacher and she gave me a couple dates I could come in, but it interfered with my school schedule so I was unable to do them. With this said I decided to go with my backup plan which was shadowing my mom. She has me helping her to create lesson plans for the students and create different sensory tables to improve their skills. This will still end up benefiting me because she can bring the stuff home so that I can help. I have already hot glue gunned there names on these name tags as seen in the photo so that they can trace them. This helps some of them know how to write their names. As I become more familiar with what skills the kids have I will be able to create ideas on my own and come up with the plans with my mom which will help me in the future when I become a teacher.

April 8 2020
Schools have been shut down due to the global pandemic that is happening. Similar to high schools preschool is going online as well. Instead of doing work as we are they are starting to do activities through their teachers like yoga or snack time. This is happening so that they understand what is still going on and why they are not in school. Teachers are recording themselves reading books for the kids so they are not just sitting at home on their device. We are doing this by using the app zoom. I have created a Document that was shared with the parents about teaching their kids about the virus through videos. This is important because they were just ripped out of school with no explanation after watching the videos they should know a little more about what is happening and that it is best for them. With the virus there is less work for me to do since I am having to do my own school work and the kids are wanting to see their teachers faces instead of mine.

Q- what has changed now that schools are online

A- My whole schedule has changed, and interacting with preschoolers is very important right now.

Q- Are you having zoom calls with your students

A- Yes, I am.

Q- Are you only staying in touch with the kids or the parents as well?

A-Parents as well, we call every Monday and send emails to check in with the families and see how they are doing with remote learning and health wise.

Q-If you are not zooming with the kids do they have other work sent to them?

A- Yes every Sunday they get a virtual learning lesson plan with ideas and examples

Q- Has teaching online taught you anything more about teaching in general?

A- It's easier to teach when you are in the classroom. For preschool so much of the teaching deals with social emotions where you need peers to help which is hard to do online.

Q- Are you still teaching with curriculum

A- Yes we are.

Q- Do you have certain times that you zoom your kids at?

A- On Thursdays we zoom at 11:30-11:45 and 12:00-12:15 and everyday is a different theme on Fridays it's 9:30-9:45 and 10:00-10:15

Q- what is one thing that you miss about going into school?

A- Connecting with my students and colleges as well as the parents.

Q- Do the students know what is happening with them having to be at home?

A- We have shared a couple of social stories to have a little more of an idea what is happening. It is hard for them to grasp everything that is happening since they are so young.

Q- did the school teach you anything about how to teach online? If so, what did they tell you about it?

A- We met with our director of preschool virtually and there has been a lot of communication with directors at each school to staff. We communicate every Monday with lesson planning for the week.
