Many people get so excited by the warm weather and impatient at their slow progress that they go from 3 months on the lounge to attempting a marathon in 4 weeks – this is a recipe for disaster. Make sure you increase your running and training times by small increments only – a 5 -10% increase in either distance or time each week is plenty and will ensure you stay pain free. One of the biggest predictors of injury in runners is rapidly increasing training volume – the more training you do the greater the risk, it is simple maths.

Many people get excited about starting a training program. However, they make the mistake of grabbing their favourite pair of Dunlop Volleys (a favourite shoe worn by roof tilers – not marathoners) and then wonder why they get foot, knee and leg pain 2 weeks into their program.  Make sure you get a good pair of running shoes BEFORE you start your training program – unfortunately for your bank balance you do get what you pay for when it comes to running shoes.

Many new runners get injuries due to following a route that has too many hills in it – hill running is a great training tool but hills also cause incredible demands on the joints of the lower body and can accelerate injury risk in certain people. Try and stay on the flat for the first few months and then add some hills in as your fitness improves – it is better to be running on the flat than not running at all.

We mentioned a moment ago that one of the biggest predictors of injury is training volume – the other biggest predictor is past injury history. It amazes us here at Active Physio Health the number of people that had an injury at the end of their last training or sport season – and do not have any treatment of assessment on that area prior to starting next seasons training. The injury may have left some scar tissue, reduced range or muscle weakness that will greatly increase the injury risk when training resumes.

The goal of using plyometric training is to attain maximal muscular power in the shortest amount of time. This type of training is most beneficial to sprinters, and athletes who require fast acceleration. Plyometric injuries most often occur due to athletes doing too much too soon, or by incorrect technique of the exercise.  Things to consider in order to reduce the likelihood of plyometric injuries:

– land on the largest possible surface area of the foot by landing on toes before softly rolling down onto the heels .
 – plyometric exercises are normally only recommended for advanced and experienced well-conditioned athletes.
 – take long rests between sets and always stop when feeling overly fatigued.

Explosive power training has a role in therapy programs. Plyometric drills and exercises have been used to enhance athletic performance for decades. In rehabilitating my own clients back to a safe and successful return to sport after injury, I believe plyometric training is an essential component.

The literature available on plyometrics is not conclusive. The research does not validate the effectiveness of plyometric exercise in the prevention of reinjury, or whether it promotes a more successful return to sport. Plyometric training is becoming more popular for the upper body, but the available research only looks at lower limb training. Although the available research is inconclusive, this should not deter therapists from using it within the rehabilitation program. However, a thorough understanding of plyometrics is required.

The neuromuscular system is worked very powerfully during plyometric training, with the aim to make the muscles work more in less time (7) by increasing the elastic properties of the muscle-tendon unit to increase explosive power.

The difference between plyometric training and normal strength training is its focus on improving the efficiency of the stretch-shortening cycle.

Researchers have identified a direct correlation between plyometric training and the following improvements in athletic performance:

– increase in vertical jump height
 – improved sprint times
 – increase in golf speed and driving distance
 – improved running economy.

An athlete should be able to perform functional movements such as a double and single leg squat before they attempt plyometric training. If you can’t squat properly, you certainly won’t be able to do a jump squat effectively, and will greatly increase your risk of injury.

The key training principle of specificity dictates that training for a sport should replicate the movement patterns and energy systems required for that sport. Since the aim of rehabilitation is to regain the pre-injury level of function of the injured site, specificity would seem to argue in favour of using plyometrics as a rehab tool. If an athlete has to run, jump, and change direction in their sport, then their rehabilitation should prepare them specifically for those actions. The crucial judgement for therapist lies in what level of activity to introduce at what point in the rehab process.

Therapists should be aware that there is a risk of aggravating injury with plyometric exercises during rehabilitation. However, I believe if the athlete returns to play an explosive sport without having performed plyometric exercises at a high level, they will be at greater risk of re-injury.

Low intensity plyometric rehab can be done daily as long as the exercises don’t provoke soreness to the injured area. I recommend that high intensity exercises should only ever be done every second day at the very most. If an athlete is able to perform high level exercises, they are most likely to be a week or two away from competing, and then they can resume their normal training regime.

I believe this modality is essential to the success of late stage rehabilitation. As long as the exercise is mimicking the sporting activity and you are confident the athlete’s injury can withstand it physiologically, embrace it.

About Me 

Well, this is awkward. I've been a movie fanatic for years, (Followed Marvel when they cast released Robert Downey Jr in Iron Man back in 2008, the brilliant Dark Knight Trilogy, The Lord of the Rings/Hobbit trilogies, Insidious trilogies etc). I get annoyed just like the next person when people show up and fool around, with no interest in the movie, indicating that they obviously have NOT bought their own ticket's or are very bad with money (Spend everything the moment they earn it)! 

I'm a very patient guy, and like a variety of movie genres. I also like to remain at the end of a movie in case there are after credit scenes to help determine if we should expect more movies in the future, or possible tie-ins (Thank you Marvel). After watching Godzilla (2014), I did not see any after credit scenes, and then when Kong: Skull Island (2017) was released, the after credit scenes seemed to tie them in. 

Having said that, I struggle to find on the internet where we can find a website to tell us whether we should stay for these mid-credit / end credit scenes when we are in a rush or just want a straight forward “should I stay / shouldn't I stay?" situation without the need to keep reading through content before arriving at the answer, or finding out there was no answer to begin with. 

For intent and purposes here, I will try to bridge this gap by giving notifications of when to expect an update on said movie, whether it has an after credit's scene worth waiting for, and my brief thoughts on the movie itself. If it seems too brief, then I have just exited the screen after watching the movie and you can expect a more detailed update within 24 hours, hopefully to the point as soon as possible.

Zo worden de leds beter gekoeld, kunnen de scherpe schaduwen die een led kent aanzienlijk verminderd worden met de afdekking die wordt gebruikt. Ook de kans van het direct in de felle led kijken is hiermee verleden tijd.

Zie voor vergelijking onderstaande foto. De diffusers zijn op lijntjes papier gelegt. Er is goed te zien dat er bij de heldere aan de linkerkant de lijnen goed zichtbaar zijn. Opaal staat rechts en er zijn geen lijnen te zien door de diffuser. In het midden de satijn diffuser. Deze is half diffuus. ledprofiel

Als het profiel niet in het zicht komt is het niet zo belangrijk. Echter, wanneer deze wel in het zicht zit kunt u kiezen om de uiteinden van het profiel af te dekken met bijbehorende einddoppen. Het begin en eind van het profiel kunnen worden voorzien van eindkappen.
