Answer: Efforts are being made to clean up microplastics in the ocean but due to their small size it is much more difficult to get microplastics out of the ocean then the larger pieces of plastics that also pollute the ocean.

Question: How badly can Microplastics harm humans that come in contact with them?
Answer: As addressed earlier, the harm to humans comes when the microplastics are ingested through chemicals and toxins attached to them.

Question: When did microplastics start to become an environmental problem?
Answer: When microplastics started to harm the environment would go hand and hand with when plastic began to harm the environment which was in the late 1960's after plastics began to become regularly used.

One of the big problems is that it can affect every animal inside of a food web from animals as small as zooplankton to the larger consumers. The reason this is of concern is because once animals consume microplastics it can begin to block part of their digestive track which diminishes their urge to eat and if the animal consumes enough they will eventually starve.
