Content Standards:

Idaho Content Standard 2.SS.2.2 - Compare how environmental conditions affect living styles and clothing in different parts of the country.

Introducing weather! Students will participate in an interactive slideshow in which we put names to phenomenon such as rain, wind, heat, and snow storms.

Learning Objective:

Students will be able to name by looking at a picture, different kinds of weather patterns and what storm type they are. For example, a heat "storm" is called a "heat wave", while a "snow storm" is called a "blizzard".

Students will be given a worksheet that corresponds with an activity we will do at the same time. On their I-pad or Chromebook, students will find a place anywhere they want on the planet, and find out 3 facts about that place's weather.

Students will be able to compare differences in weather around the globe.

Students will conduct a singluar interview of a parent, family member, or peer, and write down this person's favorite kind of weather and why, and then this person's least favorite kind of weather and why.

Students will analyze how weather/enviorments affect peoples' moods.

Students will find online a clothing item that people wear in the world to protect against weather, and then bring that same item to class. (A rain coat for rain, a glove for snow, shorts for the summer heat). Students will then show in small groups what they brought, and where this piece of clothing can be found.

Learning Objective:

Students will be able to demonstrate how temperature affects how people dress in the world.

Students will construct a weather journal and document the weather everyday for a 1-week period, including what clothing people wore to protect against different types of weather. Then they will submit the journal as a form of sumative assessment at the end of the unit on weather.
