Genetic modification has many benefits but many people think that the ethically issues outweigh the positives. An ethical issue is people thinking that because the food is genetically modified it will have contents that are artificial and not good for you. Everyday we eat lots of organisms with all types of different DNA in our daily diet. Our body has all of the enzymes required to break down the extra genes that come from genetic modification therefore this concern has no real point behind it as the human body can deal with all the new genes.

For example insects may become pesticide resistant or it could lead to birth defects for those modified offspring. However many scientists agree that it could be beneficial in the fight against starvation. Crops could be genetically modified to survive with less water needed or grow faster to avoid dry or monsoon seasons,or finally stay edible for longer. However because of the potential unknown side effects these crops have only been trialed in extreme problem areas where water can be scarce for a whole year. As well as this genetically modified animal species similarly to those who have been selectively bred often have health issues potentially surrounding these genetic changes made by an outside factor, not allowing them to evolve naturally how nature intended

There are many ethical issues surrounding Genetic Engineering. Firstly, adding to or manipulating the genes of an embryo does not sit well with many people, as the embryo could technically be considered a living being as it has developed a functioning brain. This is an issue as the embryo cannot give consent to any manipulation of it's genes, so some people think that this should not be done, even if it might help the embryo when it is eventually born. Furthermore, genetic engineering is a relatively new school of science, so we cannot be 100% certain of the result. It could therefore be considered unethical to perform an operation on a potential human being which could result in the human being worse off than before. Personally, I disagree with this, as if an embryo could potentially develop an inherited disease we should do anything we can to allow that future human to have as healthy a life as possible. In my opinion it is unethical not to perform gene therapy if a potential disability is detected and scientists have the power to fix it. Another ethical issue with genetic engineering

There are many concerns surrounding Genetic engineering such as the long term effects it could have such as insects becoming pesticide resistant if they continue to eat a constant diet of pesticides forming plants which would be really bad because they would have to form a new pesticide to protect the plants. However there are also concerns about the effects of eating GM food on human health but hunmas eat many different types of dna every day as part of the normal diet because of this We should be bake to digest a few extra genes. As well as these concerns therw are also many positives to genetic engineering such as artitectual Benifits like improved growth rates of plant and animals for people’s to eat so then this would improve the production chain, also some plants have been genetically engineered to be able to grow in hot, cold, dry conditions so anywhere in the world this could help people all over the world. So there’s are many disadvantages and advantage to genetic modification however I think the positives outweigh the negatives for now until we can see what they do in the future.

There are several ethical concerns associated with genetic modification. For example, scientists don't fully understand any long term impact they may have on individuals or the environment. An example of this is infertility in plants; a trial of GM plants took place and some of them were made infertile. Farmers were very unhappy about this. If infertility spread into the wildlife of the countryside it could cause major problems to the environment. However scientists are working hard to prevent this and there is little evidence of problems arising.

Concerns about genetic engineering

Genetic engineering is still a very new science, and no one can be sure what the long-term effects might be. For example insects may become pesticide-resistant if they eat a constant diet of pesticide-forming plants, Some people are concerned about the effect of eatingGM food on human health However, people eat a wide range oforganismswith many different types of DNA every day as part ofanormal diet Our bodies have the enzymes needed to breakdown allsorts ofDNA as part of normal digestion, so they should be able to deal with any extra genes Another concern is that genes from GM plants and animals might spread into the wildlife of the countryside. Some people are very anxious about the effect that these GM organisms might have on populations of wild flowers and insects GM crops were originally often made infertile, which meant farmers in poor countries had to buy newseed each year. Many people were unhappy with this practice. If these infertilitygenes spreadintowild populations, it could cause major problems in the environment although scientists are working hard to prevent this and there is little evidence so far of problems arising. The majority of plant scientists believe that GM crops are the way forward and probably the only way to solve the problem af feeding the world's expanding population and to cope with global warming Some of the main ethical objections to genetic engineering involve fears about human engineering People may want to manipulate the genes of their future children to make sure they are bom healthy. There are also concerns that people might want to use this process to have designer children with particular characteristics such as high intelligence or good looks Genetic engineering raises issues for everyone to thinkabout

Genetic engineering allows genes from one organism to be cut and placed inside others that have many benefits like improved growth rate of plants and animals and it creates crops that make their own pesticides however it has concerns like genetic engineered crops were Infirtile so therefore if this gene spread into the wild it could be very costly for poorer farmers as they have to buy seed to plants crops
