Language will be the main aspect in persuading the investors because persuading the investors by keeping them engaged, making them feel empathy and make them interested in our innovation. Science will help because there would be more facts and more background information on the topic and including science will make our pitch make more sense. And using scientific knowledge will make our innovation more realistic. Using both persuasion techniques and the science content will make the investors more curious about the topic and keep them engaged.

sustainable development is when you grow the economy by not wasting natural resources but how will we show the investors what sustainable development is in that we will use persuasive language to display our problem, for that we will be using pathos- which is showing different emotions to persuade your mind. Ethos- to use honesty and reliability in your product to convince your investors'
logo- to use logic and statistic and data to prove your evidence to your investors As for science, it will increase more evidence to the investors by diffing scientific knowledge it can prove a lot of benefits and warranty you that your product is useful plus for the investors which might not have a great understanding about scientific knowledge can have a better understanding after using language to explain the investors to prove your statement so they can use your statement and understand it. which is why language is needed to explain the viewer plus scientific knowledge will give more evidence and relevance to prove your problem which will need language to explain your scientific knowledge plus use persuasive language to state your problem more effectively. This is why I think science and language together can be used to explain and persuade for sustainable development

In this IDU I found a few connections between English and Science which helped me to present my idea effectively. I could use Science to persuade others by using statistics and I could make the statistics seem more persuasive since I could use Intonation and provide facts about why the statistics were good or bad to make personal connections with the viewer which are some techniques I learned in English. This showed me that I can use facts from Science and techniques of persuasion from English to persuade someone to develop a sustainable solution. In English we also learned the persuasion method Logos which is using logic and facts to persuade viewers which is also what we did in our presentation by using facts/benefits of our innovation and energy type (solar, hydroelectric etc.) to persuade the viewers. Language is the main part of the persuasion since we use different words and tones to engage the audience with what we are saying and Science helps as well with this since it adds facts and evidence to prove what we are saying is true and adds sense and logic to it. This how I think Science and English work together to help with persuasion for sustainable development.

Using the three strategies we learned, logos, pathos and, ethos we can be more persuasive because if we use logic we will be able to show the statistics. If we use pathos the investors will be able to relate and feel the emotion we are addressing. Using celebrities can help us build trust with the investors because people trust celebrities and we can use science to explain the solution and explain the energy transformations as well as the benefits of the different types of energy.

In order to persuade investors for sustainable development, we need to use both language and science in order to build a stronger connection with our audience. Using english will help us persuade the investors to invest in our innovation in a more effective way. We will be using the three skills (ethos - trust and credibility, pathos - emotion, and logos - logic) in order to build a connection with the audience (ex: the problem can make them feel diff. emotions) and effectively send our message to the audience. This is where science comes into place, one of the 3 skills I mentioned previously is logic. In science, we research statistics, facts, and extra information about our problem (for example, how many people having access to energy) and innovation (ex: how you're innovation transforms different sources of energy to another, types of energy, etc) in order to prove that the problem is real and that the innovation is realistic. If the investor seems to be knowledgable about this issue and how the innovation functions, the investors will be more open to invest in the product. They will be more open to invest in you're innovation because 1. You will seem more confident about the issue and innovation, and 2., True facts and statistics will prove that the issue is real, and they will trust you and see you as a trustworthy/reliable business man/woman. At the end, the investors will definitely invest in your'e company if you prove to them that your'e innovation is solving a real problem (science) by using persuasive language (english)

Using english we were able to persuade them into having a better and sustainable development. English will help make it more persuasive and make it a better pitch to perform because by using the language we can communicate better and more effectively and use the evidence that we get properly and in the right way. Using science, we obtain the evidence that we get from the research and information. So together, science backs up the evidence part and english helps us to convey that information properly.

English and Science can be both used together to convince people to act differently. An example of this is we can use English to make something persuasive and we can use Science to provide evidence on how something works because we can say that wind energy can turn into electricity when it passes through a windmill but if it is not persuasive there is no point. But if you have something that is only persuasive and does not have any real evidence people will not work with you.

Zimmy- This is beneficiary because if we were to do a separate unit on just pitches and a separate unit on energy saving then we wouldn't have been able to gain a deeper understanding on the saving energy perspective in this IDU and for english we wouldn't be able to persuade as good as we did if we didn't have an IDU. units like these will also line up with what we will have to do in the future, for example business presentations and courses in universities

Thirdly all the things and elements we are learning are needed for our future and also we can use this knowledge to collective learn off each other and also we can use this IDU unit to help us too.

Also for my topic it was difficult to find information about my topic since it is about cargo planes and most websites talk about planes in general, so that was hard for me. Another challenge was to keep track of the knowledge and information we have learned in class because we are connecting both classes together and also learning both subjects at the same time. This was hard since we can't keep everything in at one time and have to take time with our learning, so that was a challenge for me to take in during my learning.

It is also a challenge to make tasks that mix both subjects and the summitive in the end must also be a task that will cover both subjects and that the students can display what they have learnt in class. Some limitations include students not getting a deeper understanding of the subjects as the tasks will be related with oneanother. There was also a change in the task as previously we were supposed to work in groups but now we had to work individually, if we were to work in groups we could share different ideas and collaborate to make a better innovation or be able to say more in the pitch.

The benefits of doing our IDU on English and science is that it will make our pitch stronger. In this case it happened because our pitch needed to be about a Clean and affordable energy, that’s when science helped out. We needed to know information on our energy source so that we could have more evidence. So science will help by teaching us how the energy transformation works etc. English will help with its persuasion techniques. Using persuasion techniques will make the investor more interested in the innovation. (english perspective ) If we were to do it separately our pitch would have been very simple making it very vague, there wouldn't be much information and facts about our innovation. (science perspective) If it was don't separately our pitch would not have been persuasive and interesting but it would have a lot of information making it difficult for the investors to be engaged and understand our pitch. So that is why both science and English were combined rather than doing them both separately.

For doing the IDU in a science perspective we're only focusing on the type of energy our innovation uses rather than focusing on all the different energy sources which means we only have a limited amount of knowledge on the sources of energy. From an English perspective, the only that we were focusing on is being persuasive to the investors which becomes a limitation because being persuasive becomes the only thing we worry about in an English perspective. It becomes challenging for us because we have to constantly think of being both scientifically correct and being good at persuasion for English.

Some of the benefits of the Interdisciplinary Unit on English and Science rather than doing a separate unit for Energy and Persuasion is that we could expand our understanding on both aspects in a very different and un-usual way. If we had just done our English Unit on persuasion it would be very broad and would include a lot of things that would not connect strongly. Likewise, if we only did Energy in Science we would only see how different types of energy worked, how they transformed into other forms of energy, renewable vs non renewable etc. By doing the IDU we could better understand how persuasion is used in a real life situation since our goal was to try and invest our product to investors which we might do later on in our lives. This also helped us use what we learned in Science to come up with our own innovation to help solve a problem and look at how helpful it would be since we were given a situation where we had to find a solution for the ‘Energy For All’ goal which required specific details such as having reliable, clean and sustainable energy which would help us think more critically. By doing the two units together we could also use both aspects in a different way to make our pitch stronger by using evidence from science and persuasion from English.

On the science part of the IDU we mainly focused on energy transformations, renewable vs non-renewable, different types of energy etc and similarly in English we mainly focused on persuasion techniques and the format of our pitch. This did not help us to clearly understand how we could have used both aspects for our summative task and had us figure that part out mainly on our own which was very challenging. However, if these were separate units than we would not have to join both together and just focus on the single subject. It was also challenging to come up with a legitimate and more creative solution since we had limited time on that.

Separately they are informative but when taught as interdisciplinary units, we can understand the real-life use of the skills and knowledge that we had learned separately. We have now learned how to persuade people about a scientific innovation for the sustainable development of the environment.

· Learning as an IDU is more fun as we can relate different ideas and use different techniques to come up with better solutions to solve real-world problems.

I faced one challenge while doing this unit as an IDU, compared to doing separate science and English units. I have previously learned how to use persuasion using different persuasive words and phrases in English. I have also learned how to come up with scientific ideas and innovations to overcome a problem. Each discipline uses distinct terminologies to explain in their own way. When mixing the two disciplines, I found it a bit challenging when deciding which term to use to explain certain aspects of my work. Deciding whether to use an English term that anyone can understand or a scientific term that needs explanation but defines an aspect in a better manner was the only challenge that I had faced.

For sustainable development, we can use both language and science to persuade the audience in many ways. First, for language, to convince the investors the presenter should speak in a formal language as this is a business deal. In addition to that, there are different forms of appeals that can be used, such as Ethos, Logos, or Pathos. For pathos, the presenters can use impactful words. For example, the presenter could use words that sound really devastating if they are saying something sad and they can persuade/ convince their target audience by making an emotional response through the language is needed. Along with this, we can use the combination of science to persuade by giving an appeal to logic and explaining science behind what is being presented about. The presenter can explain the science behind how their products functions and also include sources/date to support their statement. This, therefore, provides the audience with evidence. If the audience sees that the presenter is aware of the science behind it to justify how their product functions then the audience will consider it as more reliable. When explaining the science, transitional words can be used for language. This will make the speech more persuasive because it will make the speaker’s words flow better/ more progressively, so it will sound nicer in the audience's perspective. If social evidence is given of a place where the sustainable development worked, or positive impacts/ benefits of the products are mentioned, then the audience can also be persuaded to think that the sustainable development solution will be worth more to invest in or look into since now they know how it can be successfully established within the targeted area(s).

One of the benefits of doing an interdisciplinary unit rather than separate classes is that we can learn how to combine our knowledge on both subjects and use them together effectively to build up the concept of the unit “Energy for all”. If we were to learn the topic separately and have separate projects for both the subjects, we will not get the chance to perform in the real-life context, which is the presentation. The IDU has enabled us to bring our learnings in English and Science together through the projection of our concerns towards our world with the use of persuasive language and evidence. This unit has resulted in obtaining special learnings, such as developing communication and research skills as well as using prior knowledge from evaluating the pitches of real investors who presented to us a few weeks before we had to present our final pitch presentation.

A limitation of doing this unit as an IDU, compared to doing separate English and science units is that we might not be able to focus on different energy sources. During the process of developing our sustainable development innovation for the IDU, we focused on one form of energy that would be beneficial and did individual research for that energy form. If we learned through separate subjects instead of an IDU, then in Science we would have been able to learn more in-depth about various renewable energy sources and how they work instead of one energy source. In English, it didn’t have an IDU, we could have used the persuasive language techniques to do a different project, write a newspaper article to convince the society and/or the government. Also, the IDU was a project which, for the most part, was quite difficult to do and also we didn't have a lot of days to thoroughly practice our pitch or take the time to think through our innovation and come up with a practical, innovative solution which is realistic.

For this unit, we have done an Interdisciplinary unit for science and english, "Energy for All". Our goal was to focus on an issue impacting our world caused by energy, and creating an innovation to solve that problem (this was the science aspect of the unit). We also had to pith our innovation to innovators to invest in our company and help bring this issue to its end. The benefits of doing an IDU for energy for all (in my opinion) are:
1. Doing an IDU will help us learn to build connections with 2 or more different subjects and teach us how to make them work well with each other. For example, we first found a problem impacting our world and created an innovation to solve it. We then used language to help us carry out the innovation and persuade investors to invest in it. In this situation, we found connections between english and science and delivered a solution (innovation) to the problem (the issue we found). I believe we can use this technique in future situations for example summative assessments, business reports, and many more.
2. An IDU helps us broaden our perspective on both subjects together. This helps us build off of the information we learnt from each subject, to create a strong product. This is called collective learning. For example, reading an article about an issue (for example, global warming) consisting of statistics and strong facts. To understand the information, we can use english to analyse the info we found and science to learn about how and why it happened. This can help us create a solution for a real, and existing problem.
Completing this unit has resulted in me learning new skills and techniques like skimming and scanning through articles, analyzing information, building connections to help me understand the topic clearly, and persuading the audience now only with language (empathy, emotions, relating) , but also with statistics and science.

Although there are multiple benefits of doing an IDU, there also a few limitations if completing one as well. While creating our innovation, we only researched on one form of energy, which was a closed door for us. The option of learning about other energy sources was not there. If we had done this separately in science, we could've took our time and researched on all of the forms of energy more thoroughly. Then, we could have chose the form of energy we would be researching our with more knowledge about the topic. In english, we could've focused on learning and practicing our communication skills (for ex: ethos, pathos, logos, persuasion) instead of researching on energy (which we could've completed in science class with the help of a science teacher).

For example, if we did English separately, then we would be learning about being persuasive about many different things. As a result, it would be hard for us to relate our persuasive skills to be able to convince our energy-related ideas. Similarly, if we did science separately then it would be hard for us to communicate in a better and persuasive way. By doing an IDU, now we know how to use the information and research in real life situations and in a real selling product for the audience. It made us know more about our country and helped us for our future in business.

One of the most challenging parts was that since science is a very vast subject and very critical writing so we had to change that to an easy persuasive information for our audiences and every information is already a fact and known so we still had to convince them with more depth. if we did this individually then obviously we could have learned more about the topic in a different subject and in more depth and gained a lot more knowledge about certain things. we even could have balanced our knowledge of each subject and then it would be a lot easier to remember information and the knowledge

Another problem was that we did not receive that knowledge to combian both of the subject to create a presentation. For the pitch we did have a problem in science as we did not posses how energy works and how we should have been worked in our solution another problem was that if we had different subjec we could receive more information about this topic to have a better un derstanding as we did not have much time it was hard for us to understand and apply theknowledge in our presentation which lead some of us confused.

Science will give you solid solid scientific evidence to back up your information and innovation. For example, in your pitch, if you say that solar panels are a good renewable energy sources it will not be persuasive enough to make people invest in your product. But if you say that solar panels are a good source of renewable energy and you give solid scientific evidence, you will sound like you know what you are talking about and sound more persuasive.

Doing an IDU lead us to many benefits that we wouldn't have been able the obtain if we did two different units in science and english about Energy and the use of persuasion. Some of the benefits of doing this IDU were that we were able to address and think about real life situations and problems as well as produce solutions which can be used in those situations. This IDU also lead us to thinking about the how other people's lives are compared to our lives as well as what we can do to help change their life styles. The result of doing this IDU was our pitches which included elements we learned from both english and science class, our pitches included a real life problem we highlighted, a solution we made for our problems as well as how it function, what are the energy transformations used to create our final form of energy and how our solution will impact the lives of people in bangladesh (ideal users). In a nutshell I can say that doing this unit has benefited our learning majorly.

As much as this unit has been beneficial for all of our learning this unit also proved to create some challenges and limitations in our learning. Some of the challenges and limitations that I have highlighted were that since we did individual research for what problem we wanted the find a solution to, most of us decided to focus on an issue that was popular and was easy to find information on so most of us ended up finding the same solution as well and an example would be how most of us decided to focus in the lack of electricity in villages of bangladesh so most of us made solar panels and other solar systems as our solutions. Some other challenges that we faced were lack of time to work on each step of the pitch thoroughly and we could not get more time to learn about the different forms of energy.

Q1: For a sustainable development we need to use both language and science to persuade our audience and build a deeper connection with them. We will need to use language in order to present our presentation in a formal manner so that the investors find a better connection through language and they can invest in our innovation.

In language there are three skills that we can use to persuade our investors, these skills are Ethos, Logos and Pathos. Ethos is building trust between you and your audience, Pathos is creating emotion example telling a personal story and Logos is logic which includes informations , statistics and facts. Science is also needed to persuade the audience by giving them an explanation behind the science of the product or the logic behind it. We can provide evidence to our audience about our innovation through the help of science. We can also explain them how the product functions and we can teach them about our innovation , we are going to be able to do this with help of science. If we apply both language and science in in our presentation while persuading the audience I am sure that this will increase the chance for them to invest in our product.
