Tide pools, or rock pools, are rocky pools on the sea shore which are filled with seawater. Many of these pools exist as separate pools only at low tide.Tide pools, or rock pools, are rocky pools on the sea shore which are filled with seawater.
Many tide pools of especially adaptable animals that have engaged the attention of naturalists and marine biologists, as well as philosophical essayists: John Steinbeck wrote in The Log from the Sea of Cortez, "It is advisable to look from the tide pool to the stars and then back to the tide pool."
Tidal pools exist in the intertidal zone. These zones are submerged by the sea at high tides and during storms, and may receive spray from wave action. At other times the rocks may undergo other extreme conditions, baking in the sun or exposed to cold winds. Few organisms can survive such harsh conditions. Lichens and barnacles live in this region. In this zone, different barnacles species live at very tightly constrained elevations. Tidal conditions precisely determine the exact height of an assemblage relative to sea level. The intertidal zone is periodically exposed to sun and wind, which desiccate barnacles, which need to be well adapted to water loss. Their cali shells are impermeable, and they possess two plates which they slide across their mouth opening when not feeding. Because the water in the pools rises and falls with the tide, many of the tide pools exist separately only at low tide. Some of the organisms that inhabit tide pools, (also called rock pools), are sea stars, mussels, clams, oysters, crabs, octopus, jellyfish, urchins, sea anemone, sea snails, barnacles, seaweeds, and sea grass.

Tide pools

The southern end of Cabrillo is one of the best-protected and easily accessible rocky intertidal areas in southern California. The word “intertidal” refers to the unique ecosystem that lies between the high and low tides along the shore. Tidepools are depressions where water is trapped during low tides, forming small pools that provide habitat for numerous plants, invertebrates, and fish. formed over geologic time through a combination of biological, physical, and chemical processes. Although the whole rocky intertidal is often referred to as the “tidepool area,” it is important to note that shelves and boulder fields surround the pools, and these also provide a great habitat for the multitude of organisms that call this zone home. For many people, visiting the tidepools is the only direct experience they have with marine ecosystems. Cabrillo National Monument is an extremely popular destination for tourists, and it is estimated that more than 215,000 people visit the tidepools annually. Compared to sandy beaches, the diversity of life in the rocky intertidal is impressive. People go to the beach to swim, sunbathe, or surf, but they come to the tidepools to explore, experience, and learn.
Explore more areas of the Rocky Intertidal by visiting the sections below:
Tidepool Species
Seaweeds

Marine Mammals

Visiting the Tidepools

High Tide

Tide pools
Tide pools, or rock pools, are rocky pools on the sea shore which are filled with seawater.Tide pools have diffrent tides there is hight tide, and low tide. The tide's movement is from the moon and the sun.Whenever the Moon, Earth and Sun are aligned, the gravitational pull of the sun adds to that of the moon causing maximum tides. Spring tides happen when the sun and moon are on the same side of the earth (New Moon)

You can find many animals in tide pools such as small fish, coral, hermet crabs, and star fish.Thoses are just some of the things that
live in the tides pools. Hermet crabs are little crabs that live in shells and when they grow out of their shell they will go find a new one and leave their old shell for a nother one. star fish are pretty neat. star fish have a 5 arms like a star but they are not a fish.

some places you can find tide pools are

There are many types of animals that live in tide pools such as crabs, sea stars, clams, sea slugs/sea snails, lobsters, giant key holes ,sea urchins, hermit crabs, mussels, sea anemones, octopus, and fish. Some of the predators are sea gulls, octopus, sea anemone, large fish, hermit crabs, crabs, and believe it or not us humans are predators. One of the ways we are predators are that we could step on them or we could take them out of the water. And now I told you some of the predators and some of the animals that are not predators.

These plates also protect against predation.

There are many different animals in a tide pool but you may not see them. All of these animals have different adaptations like the Sea Urchin has a hard shell with spikes to protect them from predators, the Octopus has grey camouflage to blend in with the rocks, and the Sea Anemone stings its predators with its tentacles. Tide pools have a lot rocks that's why some people call them rock pools.

Here is a tide pool along a beach in Seal state park, Oregon coast,Pacific ocean.

Here is a picture of some Sea Urchins.

Most people think that a Sea anemone is a plant but it actually an animal.
