Now, your eyes are locked onto them. You turn to face everyone, who will not give up heir pride to kneel just yet but their eyes clearly beg for mercy. You have rehearsed this moment, your attack is perfected.  Finally, you think, it has come to their undoing, this prime moment. You open your mouth to give the words of retaliation...
     Your eyes shoot open to hear the sound of a car blaring its horn down the street. Right, the intersection, you can recall, traffic always gets to be a mess there. The air closes in on you when you observe the place around you. The pavement lays out at one side, and the building towers without welcome at the other. Sadly, you know you have to return inside at a time so late. The chill catches your bare arms, and you pull the jacket back up onto you. You are vulnerable. 
     You make your way back to the door and you hope it will be just as cooperative when you shut it this time. Another thought crosses you, then. You give into the urge to glance up once again. The stars are still spread wide, waiting and watching. Somehow you can tell they hold the same fear and begging in their eyes. Your brow furrows when you realize that they can so easily maintain a distance from you. 
      They are safe for now, but they can't forever be onlookers.
