Endless Inventory

Ratliff explains in depth what endless inventory is and what it means to the listener. I agree with his statements, especially what he writes at the end. On page 123, he writes, "...for Fela and for you, is not to define oneself briefly within the music and get out. The point is to breathe and stay put." What Ratliff is trying to say here is to not just have the mentality to listen and memorize music. The listener needs to understand what is being played before them. And you may not even get close to understanding what the artist has wrote the song about, but you can do more than just listen. Ratliff explains you can become a shareholder with the music. You first have to of course listen to it, but you can also dance to it, play instruments when singing the song, simply just bobbing your head up and down to the beat, or even sing it. Ultimately, in my eyes, I believe that music is not just a form of entertainment, it is a way of life. Understanding the music being played, knowing the background of what the artist is singing and how he sings it, and even the emotional reaction you get when you listen to a certain song. Even the impact the song has on a community or even a country can be important to understand too.

Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey is a great example when it comes to endless inventory. Like Ratliff mentioned in chapter 10, Mariah put an impact on so many people and even the community who listened to her. She ultimately influenced Beyonce to become...well Beyonce. She changed pop around and was an idol to so many of her listeners.

This is her extremely popular song, Vision of Love, that was so lifec-hanging to many. It moved through people and was greatly known as one of her best pieces in her younger years.

2 Pac

When I think of someone who greatly impacted music, I can't help but think of 2 Pac. He defined "living in California" in his songs and his most famous, California love, was a historic piece that will go down in history. He not only was showing the east coast rappers in the 90's who was the best, he also allowed for an outburst of other artists to follow his path. When he died, this just put his higher on a pedestal. He was arguably one of the best young rappers of the 90's.

This is Cody Johnson, a Texas country singer, who is on stage at a concert in Texas that I was at. He is so passionate about his music because he was once a poor and lonely farmer. He tells us at his concerts how grateful he is to be singing in front of 30,000 people and having his album on the country top 10 list.
