My name is Carolyn Jones. I’m the 2023-2024 President of the National Career Development Association.

I’m passionate about using my career development training because it enables me to expand and support the profession. It’s very important for the future of career development to continue to work together to enhance our skills and create new pathways for future CDPs.

An international symbol of the work we do—and one I’ve admired from afar for so long.

I’ve seen these beautiful pins floating all over the internet, and never imagined I’d actually have one in my hands. But Ruth brought me my very own, kindly gifted via the brilliant Candy Ho (何甜茵) —and honestly, I’m still grinning from ear to ear! 😄

As you can see… I’m already wearing it proudly.

And truthfully? This has made my day, my week, my month, my year—possibly even my decade! 🙏

Why does it mean so much? Because to me, being global, being connected, and being one united community across borders is absolutely central to who I am and what I believe in. I want every single young person—no matter where they are in the world—to benefit from the passion, creativity, and commitment that careers professionals bring to their roles every single day.

This brooch symbolises all of that.

Alongside the powerful #SoMuchMoreThanTalkingAboutJobs campaign, it reflects our identity, our mission, and our movement.

Over the past years, it has been my cherished privilege to sit with people experiencing impacts from some of the most profound and challenging times of their lives. Healing, recovery, stability, insight, understanding, and their perceptions of wellness are what they seek. Confusion, fears, anxiousness, despair at times, and losses abound as distress draws them to our services. Hope, resilience, attitudinal shifts, courage, trust, and many levels of progress may not be immediate beginnings but fostering and supporting people in their journeys is one of the greatest gifts I know. Seeking to continue coming alongside clients for more as we journey together, forward and embracing shared learning!

Career Development is always my passion; so, too, is my psychotherapy. As a LPCC Exempt Clinician, I offer integrative insurance-authorized therapeutic interventions, provide assessment and treatment according to presenting needs for Outpatient Adult Mental Health and occasional, co-occurring substance-affected clients with behavioral, emotional, career/vocational, and developmental concerns. Implement personalized, responsive client treatment plans. Conduct individual and group therapy with expansion in modalities, including EMDR (org-paid training) and OCD-Neurotypes protocols.

Multi-disciplinary team model to cross-refer and coordinate care with organization's many comprehensive services and externally for primarily neurodiverse and/or mental health populations. As a provider, we clinicians are highly encouraged to use our voice to affect and influence organizational changes and improvements. Ongoing trainings, an annual conference for 900 Clinical/client-related staff, and continual learning are deeply supported and embedded for internal promotion and growth.

This non-profit organization is MN’s largest, most experienced provider of mental health services for a specific population for 75 years 90-yr org). Serves clients through healthcare, housing, education, and career development. Our programs are nationally recognized for high quality, innovation, and individualized approaches.

I'm so grateful to work at an open-access institution that is truly committed to supporting and empowering all students to reach their career & academic goals, with particular emphasis on serving those who have been disproportionately impacted by systemic barriers & inequities. One example of me using my career development training "superpower" in action, is promoting to my campus the importance of career development in equity and liberation work though my "Ed Talk" on Career & Workforce Liberatory Outcomes - I'm grateful and proud to work in a field that's dedicated to working toward equitable access to fulfilling careers and lives for all, not just a lucky few.

The picture on this post is another example of the work I'm honored to participate in - my colleague Dr. Cheryl Love and I [pictured together at the National Career Development Association (NCDA) 2025 Conference DEI Symposium] presented together at the inaugural DEI Symposium in 2023 that she took a leading role in creating, and I was excited to reconnect and facilitate a session again at the 2025 conference. Dr. Cheryl Love, who currently works at UC Riverside, as another incredible #CDBee

Beyond student support, I’m dedicated to strengthening the ECG profession — through coaching, training, and supervising fellow counsellors, advancing evidence-based practices, and contributing to the development of policies and initiatives in schools that enable meaningful education and career development.
