         <title>Philosophy of Teaching</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I believe in progressivism as my core philosophy of teaching. Progressivism truly focuses on the needs and interests of the students. One of the guiding philosophers behind this theory was John Dewey.  Dewey essentially said that students learn best through interaction with others and through problem-solving, as stated in <a href="https://www.theedadvocate.org/philosophies-education-3-types-student-centered-philosophies/">The Edvocate</a> (Lynch, 2018). Students should feel valued and respected. Lessons should be engaging and leaving students to think critically. Learning should be an experience for my students. </div>]]></description>

By creating engaging lessons and giving students experiences that make them think critically, I can ensure that students learn content deemed necessary. Understanding that each student is unique and has different things that work for he or she is a vital aspect of teaching, so being willing to explore what works for the individual is as essential as exploring what works for the overarching class. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-It is important to remember that not every strategy will work for every student. <br>-Many times, direct eye contact or a look should be enough to reel a student back in, but that will not always be the case. <br>-When school rules are broken in my classroom, students will be asked to reflect on the broken rule and what they could have done differently in the situation.<br>-If students can not handle sitting near each other, they will be separated. <br>-Make broken rules a teachable moment.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-When students enter the room, they will see a class agenda posted on the board. <br>-As I believe in the workshop model, language classes will begin with a short mini-lesson, after which students will either collaborate or work alone (depending on the lesson) to practice their skills. <br>-During reading periods, students will generally spend time collaborating in some sort of discussion about the previous day's reading. This could come through many different means, such as whole class, small group, or individually. Some days, students will have completed reading prior to class, while other days it may be completed in class.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-My ideal classroom is set up with tables, rather than traditional desks. As a part of my philosophy, I believe that tables offer the best chance for students to collaborate and work together as we inquire. <br>-Along with tables, I would like to have a couch, as well as comfortable chairs, and bean bag chairs. To me, this would be responsive to the physical development that middle level students are undergoing during this time in their lives, as this seating would give students some comfort level.<br>-My posters will be a mixture of literature elements, language elements, expectations, motivational aspects, and aspects that are personal to me such as sports posters and historical posters.</div>]]></description>
