But, our scientists have analyzed less than 1 percent of tropical plants for medicinal purposes. There have been shamans in Amazonian tribes have used plant based medicines to find cures for chronic diseases that the west has had trouble curing. There could be a cure for cancer in that jungle, but if the shamans of the jungle and their medical ways die, we may never find it. Their interaction with their medicine is also linked to rituals, which carry on their culture. Loss of this medicine would mean an end to their ritualistic culture.

They`re shamans use the plants of the Amazon to create hallucinogens for their rituals, in which they believe that they are talking to the spirits of the physical world.

There are more than 1,000 illegal miners working on Yanomami land that are brining diseases that they have never encountered, as in malaria, and they are polluting the water source with mercury. While tribal medicine can solve many things, it is very hard to create a cure for malaria seeing as how they`ve never encountered it.

When the land of the shamans are being taken, the plants they use disappear. Since the shamans can`t have plants to use to make medicine, they cannot make medicine or pass on the tradition.
