In 1778 an English explorer by the name of Cook came to the islands and put these islands on a map. Cook called these islands hawaii. As he got to the islands he had a religion called christianity which is monotheistic. monotheistic is when you worship one god. With the changes of going to christianity they had some problems. Their problems were changes in diet, a significant loss of population due to foreign diseases, and had a long lasting and often devastating effect on the Hawaiian population.
