The Silk Road was so important to China as it developed into a strong civilization because it helped China trade with other countries. Also, it gave a way for people to travel in and out of China. We probably wouldn't know as much as we do about Ancient China if the Silk Road wasn't created when it was. China was very isolated by deserts, mountains, jungles, rivers and oceans until the Silk Road was made. The Silk Road got its name by how much silk was traded on it. Yes, other things were traded, but silk was most common. Other countries would trade for things such as silk, porcelain, paper and more of their inventions. Many countries, including China, got much use out of the silk road when it came to trading. It changed the way people lived because it put more convenient items into their lifestyle. Many countries used China's at the time, new, inventions and they all still play very important role in our lives around the world today, such as, paper, the compass, the wheelbarrow, porcelain and more. The Silk Road changed the way things were in ancient times.

Hannah

Essay #3- The Han Dynasty has greatly influenced the civilization of China because of its long-lasting reign when so much was being invented. During the Han dynasty the wheelbarrow was invented. This might not seem that important but it made farmers' work so much easier. Just imagine that you are doing yard work and you have to pick up every stick one by one and carry them all. The wheelbarrow could carry a large amount of anything and you could just push it around. This made farmers' labor quite easier. Another invention created in the Han Dynasty was a rudder. A rudder was something on a boat that could steer it easily. Now that steering a boat was simpler, trade by boat occurred more often. In the Han Dynasty, so many medical advancements were invented including; acupuncture, anesthesia, and herbal remedies. This made it so people could be properly treated if sick. Another Han Dynasty invention was the compass. The compass was a wonderful invention because any traveler could find their way whether by land or sea. Lastly, one invention created in this powerful dynasty was paper. Paper was critical because you could record things easily without writing on stone or bark. Also, bronze-casting and porcelain was invented in the Han Dynasty. These were traded and now cost thousands to millions of dollars. Overall, you can tell that the Han Dynasty was like China's renaissance and it made life easier for the Chinese. The Han Dynasty was so powerful and lasted about 400 years. Although it ended centuries and centuries ago, the people of China today still call themselves, "The Children of the Han".

Lauren R.

The Silk Road was an ancient trade route that ran from China all the way to Europe. The Silk Road was given its name because of the silk that Ancient China made. Silk is a fabric made from silkworms, and back in the Ancient World, China was the only civilization that knew how to make it. This brought traders from all over Europe to China so they could get some of this luxurious fabric for themselves. This allowed China's empire to grow wealthier, gain recognition, and earn more power. During this time, China was able to gain many things from the West that helped evolve their civilization such as gold, perfumes, glass, and fruits. At the same time, the West was able to gain furs, ceramics, jewels, spices, gunpowder, paper, and printing techniques from the East. However, goods were not the only thing spread on this route, beliefs and religions were spread too. As you can see, this route allowed Chinese culture and philosophy to be brought to Europe and European culture to be spread to China, helping shape some of the modern beliefs and inventions we have today.
Delaney

There is an abundant amount of data that shows how Confucius's philosophy and analytics had such a great impact on life in ancient China. First of all, Confucius teachings included 5 key relationships, which were adopted by the Han Dynasty. This relationships included, father to son, husband to wife, friend to friend, teacher to student and older sibling to younger sibling. These teachings helped ancient China with respect, and how it works. Then, the Han Dynasty used these relationships and Confucius's teachings to help create a more stable government, which greatly impacted the past and future generations in China. This was done by enforcing that if any men wanted to work in the government/civil services that had to complete a test based apron Confucius's philosophy and academics. Not only that, the Han Dynasty also adopted Confucius's Golden Rule. "Treat others the way you want like to be treated.". Moreover, this rule showed the past and present citizens of China about respect, and how you should always respect others above and below you. Also, Confucius's teachings affected the development and view of modern teachings, he believed that he would rather teach a eager student then for say a noble student. As you can see, this rule shows how teachers should rather want to a eager student, one who is thirsty for knowledge rather than just a noble student. In conclusion, those are just a few pieces of data that shows how Confucius's philosophy and teachings had such a great and powerful impact the past, present and future of Ancient China
Savannah

Essay #3 The Han dynasty
The Han dynasty played a major part in China's development, the people during this time accomplished many things. These include creating a civil service, expanding the Great Wall, and expanding China's border. All of these accomplishments were ordered by the emperors Liu Bang, and Wudi. One major thing that was achieved during the Han dynasty was creating a civil service. Due to the fact that Liu Bang promoted Confucianism during the Han dynasty, he decided to make a civil service based off of Confucians teachings. Before this happened only men who were related to past government workers could get a job in the government. Although the civil service now allows any man to be able to work for the government, it is still very hard to get these jobs. This is because you have to undergo many exams that are based on the teachings of Confucianism.

Another accomplishment during the Han dynasty was strengthening the Great Wall and expanding China's border. In the past dynasty, the Qin, emperor Shi Huang De ordered the building of the Chinese greatest piece of construction, The Great Wall of China. Though once the Qin dynasty was overthrown by Liu Bang, his great-grandson, Wudi, becomes the next emperor of China. His mission was the overall strengthen China, so one of his achievements was strengthening the great wall and expanding chinas border. When building off of Shi Huang Des construction he made it the size of the great wall currently in present-day China. To add on, during the Han dynasty Wudi also expanded China's border to almost double of what it was. By doing this China started to grow into present-day Central Asia, Korea, and Vietnam. These are the accomplishment that took place during the Han dynasty.
JIll

The Silk Road was an important factor as Ancient China developed into a strong civilization. The Silk Road was a route that went from China to Europe, and was used to trade goods. One of the main things that China traded was silk, which is why the route was called the Silk Road. They made the silk from the silk of silkworms. Silk was a very valuable product because it was a secret of how it was made, so everyone else wanted it. The Chinese would create the silk, then traders would travel along the Silk Road to trade it with the Europeans. The Chinese became rich by this, and they also were able to attain other items such as wool, gold, silver, jewels, metals, ivory, glass, and many others from Europe and other places along the Silk Road such as Persia, India, and Mesopotamia. Although silk was the most valuable product traded along the silk road, the Chinese also traded some of their other inventions, such as medicines, paper, porcelain, and others. So, through trading on the Silk Road, China became a strong civilization. In fact, China is the longest lasting civilization. In conclusion, if it weren't for the Silk Road, China might not still exist today.

Thomas

The Silk Road was a large collection of intertwining roads spanning across China, allowing access from other countries. At the time, China was secluded due to the mountain ranges, deserts and jungles surrounding their civilization. With the Silk Road, other travelers, countries, merchants and more made their way across the road to China. This sprouted one of the most influential times in all of China's history. Never before had they had outsiders coming in, giving them foreign goods. Most importantly, the world was introduced to their silk, hence the name The Silk Road. Silk was new, made from worm's cocoons. Women harvested and weaved them into a strong but light fabric. The trade and sale of silk sent a great deal of money and goods to China. The way silk was made was a secret; a secret, when revealed, was punishable by death. Yet while China was making a great earning from their silk, they were learning new things, other than trade and money. Philosophies, ideologies, and word of mysterious outside lands came down the Silk Road with its travelers. Buddhism, a religion still quite popular to this day, made its way across the Silk Road into China. All of these things, money, goods, beliefs and more are what shaped China into the powerhouse it is today.
Samantha G.

---
The Han dynasty achieved many accomplishments and create many inventions that have impacted the entire world.
One of the many inventions they created was the compass. The compass was created to help architects face their buildings to the North. The Chinese people believed that you should always look north when facing the Emperor, so the buildings were built towards the Emperor's castle. In later years, the compass was used to help sailors navigate their way during the day, since the sailors couldn't use the stars to navigate.
A second creation that impacted the world was paper. The Chinese people would shuck bamboo into strips, wet it, mash it, and wait for the gooey pulp to dry. This process created paper. It was a much more durable platform to write on, compared to the plaques of wood strips they would usually use. This created even more mobility for students and scribes to carry paper.
Another invention from the Han dynasty was the printing press. The printing press was the start of books being more efficiently made, and easier to find. The people of the Han dynasty originally had to rewrite their stories and lessons to create a copy before then.
Finally, a invention that also affected our countries was silk. Silk was what made China wealthy. Silkworms were one day found by an Empress, which were soon collected and turned into silk. It was soon made into luxurious, smooth and comfortable clothing to wear compared to the paper and itchy clothing. Other countries soon learned about the silk, and could only buy it from China on the Silk Road. China kept the process of making silk and where to collect the materials a secret so no other country could make it.
In conclusion, the Han dynasty was one of the many sources who created incredible inventions that we still have today.

Tiara

The Han Dynasty has created many inventions that we use today. Some of the most important inventions they had made was the compass, paper, silk, and gunpowder. The compass is important because it helps us navigate and get where we need to be. It changed the way people lived by helping them know which way is north, south, east, or west. If the Chinese never invented a compass then it would be hard to know which way to travel if you were in a boat, even today in your car. Paper is another important invention because now we do not have to write on clay blocks. Paper is easier to carry around, and the Chinese also created woodblocks to take what you wrote and paste in on another piece of paper, like the copy machines we have today. Before using paper for writing, the Chinese used it for clothing and shoes. Silk is also very important because they used it for clothes, and it was traded for other goods such as gold and glassware on the Silk Road. Before silk, the Chinese used paper as clothes and shoes. The last invention that I find most important is gunpowder. Although it was created by accident, gunpowder was helpful because they used it in fireworks. Gunpowder is also used with certain weapons, in which we still use today. In conclusion, the compass, paper, silk, and gunpowder are very important inventions that we still used today.

Paige

Essay #3: The Han dynasty had many inventions and achieved many accomplishments that impacted out society many, many years later. Some of these things included: paper, wheelbarrow, compass, rudder, gunpowder, silk, The Silk Road, and different types of metal. Paper is/was important because, it was used to write things down such as teachings, rules, poems, journals, different types of religions and stories. The wheelbarrow is/was an important thing because, it allowed farmers and workers to push around heavy things because it made it easier. The compass is/was an important invention because, it was used as a guide, the needle always pointed north so travelers used it. The rudder is/was an important thing because, it is what was used to steer boats, we still use it today even with motor boats. Gunpowder is/was a very important inventions because, without it we wouldn't have guns. It was first used for fireworks, but eventually was used in the first guns. Silk is/was an important invention because, it was a type of clothing, that was one of the causes of the start of trade because many other countries wanted it. The Silk Road was a very important accomplishment because, it is what started all of the trade from China to other countries, and what caused all of these inventions to travel around the world. Different types of metal is/was a very important invention because, it allowed people to build more with it, and with that we developed many different inventions today. So, as you can see The Han Dynasty probably was the most important dynasty (or one of the most important dynasties) because, it caused all of these accomplishments and inventions.
Adrian

There are many things that affected the development of China’s civilization, but here is just two. To start off is that the early Chinese civilization almost entirely started around the Yellow River valley as it was a fertile region for plants and food. It also didn’t have many geographical barriers. Because of this, it quickly grew and filled most of the valley and begin a strong civilization that would last through many generations.
The second one is that China was very isolated with the Himalayan Mountains and The Gobi Desert being the top. The Himalayan Mountains would stop invaders from coming in because of the cold and the lack of food and oxygen. The Gobi Desert stopped some invaders from it being very cold and stretching through most of Northern China.
Later on China realized that the Mongols were living in the Gobi Desert and raiding on the Northern part of China also known as Northern China Plain. The emperor Shi Huang Di decided to build the Great Wall of China to stop the Mongols that were raiding the Northern China Plain. This made China even MORE isolated. This is why China had the nickname "Middle Kingdom.
'There are many more places and things in China which make China very Isolated but here is just a few.
In conclusion here is just two big reasons that the physical geography of China affect the development of its civilization.
Lexi S.
