His role is a normal school boy with a normal life, until his uncle Ian Rider dies. He`s actually intelligent when it comes to school work and thinking outside of the box. He`s really brave and he`s determined  to do whatever is expected from him. He also really brave considering what he had to go through. He then becomes a young spy without much choice! Alex actually goes through a lot while being the main character. He has serious dark-brown eyes and a slightly hard, narrow mouth. Alex is well-built and slim, and has a tan He is also mentioned to have a birthmark on his left shoulder. He is very fit and somewhat has "the body of athlete." Alex is 5' 7" tall He mainly wears casual clothing such as jeans and T-shirts. When Alex was offered the position of becoming a spy he full out rejected it and wanted nothing of it. He was forced into it as Mr. Blunt was basically Alex's guardian until Alex turned 18. If he didn`t do it then he would be sent into an orphanage!

Throughout the story when Alex was under immense pressure or pain he would want to call it quits and just go home. He would constantly go back and forward from whether he should be a spy or just a regular kid. This entire internal conflict affects the plot because Alex is the main character who was chosen to find out anything from the Stormbreaker. This means that if he quitted  then whatever his uncle found out would be unleashed once the computers are shipped out, or it could be detained depending on what Alex finds if he continues his mission. 

One of the biggest problems/challenges in this book is the jellyfish that Mr. Sayle owns and keeps inside of a huge tank of water. Alex somehow got tricked by Nadia and Mr.Grin who  threw him into the sealed tank with the jellyfish.   If Alex got killed by the jelly fish, then the MI6 will not have any form of contact with Alex. This will lead to the MI6 organization not having any form of evidence to use against Sayle in case he is planning to do something.

Not only that, but when he was told by police officers that his uncle died in a car crash. He couldn`t believe it at all! it was really devastating to have someone that has an important impact on your life to apparently passed away. He didn`t believe so he went searching on his on and found out what really happened.

He went to the junk yard for cars and memorized his uncles license plate. Then he found the car with bullet shootings rather than crash marks. At that point he found out by himself that his uncle was brutally killed with a gun. 

He helped the MI6 complete their mission by stopping the president before he clicked the mouse to activate all stormbreakers. Which are computers created by Mr.Sayle who have some sort of virus in it and when it were to be clicked everyone would die! so basically he saved thousands of people from dying.
