The piece represents simply a winter forest but while looking for a painting of the woods this one stands out. one can surely notice that most paintings of a woodland include a path or trail of some sort; somewhat of a natural walkway between trees. While in reality the trees will grow where they want and while this makes for less depth in a painting, the painting stands out for it and I, being someone who spends a lot of time in the woods can appreciate this. The mood is to be for the most part based upon ones own interpretation. The mood during a journey through an untouched wilderness is relied on perception, be that optimism or pessimism.
