Eddie gets crushed

On page 18 of "The five people you meet in heaven" Eddie ends up getting crushed by one of his roller-coasters called "Freddy's free fall" after trying to save a little girl that was in the way of the coaster. The reason the ride fell was one of the workers keys rubbing against the wire, which supports that all things are connected. This is important because it shows Eddie was caring about the people around him, and can easily risk his life for someone. At points earlier in the story, he comes off as a grumpy old man, but this contradicts that. I wouldn't be able to sacrifice my life in a stressful situation the way he easily did.

On page 59, Eddie is trying to learn how to shoot his gun before going off to the war. While this was going on, Mickey his uncle came up to him and tried to teach him the right way to shoot even though Eddie doesn't want Mickey near him considering he was a drunk. This is important because it shows how Eddie really doesn't want to be near his uncle, and how Eddie feels uncomfortable around him even though he is family.

On page 57, it shows how men are forced to go to war, and that they have to or sometimes they want to. Eddie seemed like he wanted to go to war when the first idea came up, once Eddie went to war, it was almost as if he liked it there and wanted to stay. This is important in this time because people force men to go to war and to fight considering they are stronger and are labeled as people who are supposed to be saving and protecting us.

On page 58, Eddie see's while working on the pier, there's multiple single moms, with children. The kids ask Eddie to do certain things for them that are almost like fatherly things to do. On this page, the quote "was the right life but wrong pair of arms" meaning that he's doing the right thing for the children, but the wrong person doing this. This is important because it shows that their is more and more men going into war leaving their families behind, and also multiple men dying in war.

On page 138, this stuck out to me because it's about reflection on behavior. For example, Eddie's dad talked to him about how he acted towards impulse, and then violently. This is important because Eddie and his father did not have a good relationship through out his life, and considering the fact Eddie's dad tried working things out, Eddie did not feel the same. This also shows the deep commitment that Eddie's dad felt towards fixing their relationship.

This first sentence on page 105 is a very important quote. This is a powerful of imperfect parenting. This is important because it reflects off how Eddie and his dad are. Eddie's dad didn't reflect a good parenting style off of Eddie, leaving him to have a bad childhood with his dad.

On page 181, Eddie comes across children laughing, and playing in the river after following the sound of sharp, loud noises. This is important because Eddie had to deal with the guilt and heal from the emotions he was feeling. Eddie seeing the innocent children helped him accept the innocence of the others. This will also show Eddie the importance of the afterlife and how he will run into many different people that he had altercations with although he might not remember.

While Eddie was finding where the screeching noises were coming from, a little girl out of the group found him, and conversated with him about her death. Eddie's conversation with Tala is a big detail because it reveals the impact of his actions, allows him to confront his guilt, and helps him understand his life's purpose, ultimately bringing him peace.
