One thing that I remember from this video is the concept "counter culture." Counter culture is the idea of opposing something. During the time of counter culture, the Vietnam War was the main focus in counter culture. many people wanted peace and not seeing their people being drafted into war. Hippies played a role in this culture as they introduced new ideas and ways of life.

When reading this article, I couldn't agree more with the argument they are making. I had my own experiences on dating apps and this article highlights the problems with online dating. It is evident that dating apps can generate negative mental health problems. People like to create this image in their head what their date is going to be like before they meet up. When they finally meet and they are not who they imagined (not fitting what they were in their head), that makes them question if they are the right person for them. I think dating the "natural" way by meeting someone in a social setting promotes the most healthy relationships.

In this podcast, they talk about people with mental health issues dating people who also have mental health issues. My reaction to this is I have two opinions. First, it would make sense for two people to date with mental health issues because they can relate. The partners will have a better understanding of each other and how to be more patient because have first hand experience. Additionally, the partners will understand how to cope with the illnesses presented and how to recognize when someone is having an episode or showing signs of their illness. Mutual understanding in this situation will make the relationship work. On the other hand, there can be situations where the two lovers can clash. For example, sometimes if the illnesses are too great to handle, the people will be too much involved in dealing with their own illness. Therefore, this can take time away from fully understanding the other person's illness. As a result, the two people will not be able to understand each other and how to cope with situations that can and will occur. The positives in this situation was already highlighted which is mutual understanding. The negatives as presented are the two parties will clash

In my opinion, I do not think that someone is obligated to put their mental health status on their dating profile. First, mental illness is a sensitive topic and people do not have to publicize it. When a person says they have a certain mental illness, people can assume how they act and what their symptoms are. Mental illnesses elicit behaviors that a person may be too embarrassed or ashamed to talk about. Therefore, a person does not have to share that part about themselves if they do not feel comfortable. Also, I think posting a mental illness on a dating profile will veer people away. People will look at the mentally ill person and maybe think to themselves that this person is over sharing and should only share this information in an intimate setting. It is important that the two daters feel comfortable with each other to start sharing personal things as that can strengthen a relationship

It was interesting to hear their opinion on whether people with mental health issues should date other people with mental health issues The positives of this situation is that both partners are able to understand what each other are going through. They can bring out the good in each other and grow together as a couple. The negative of this situation is that with their different mental health issue and the way they act or feel can lead to arguments and fights. Someone can feel overwhelmed with dealing with a mental issue and being in a committed relationships. This might affect their mentality even more.

I believe that this article has a lot of good points about dating apps. To start off, I feel like dating apps can definitely affect one's mental health. This is because if someone does not receive enough likes or swipes and he or she might feel insecure. I have personally used tinder before and about half of the guys I matched with, texted me. It is rare that you would get a relationship out of a dating app, but it is definitely useful for when you are bored and want to have some fun.

From this video, I will absolutely remember the Watergate Scandal. This occurred June 1972, when there was a break-in to the Democratic National Committee that eventually let to an investigation that shared how president Nixon's administration was abusing its power in numerous ways, which then led to president Nixon's resignation. This will stay in my memory because it is a huge scandal in the presidency and being born into the generation that I am in, I have never experienced any presidential scandal of any kind, so it was very interesting to learn about this one during the video.

Honestly, my initial reaction to people with mental illnesses dating each other is that I find it to be very adorable. Back in elementary school, there was a couple, both with mental illnesses that dated each other and they seemed very happy, and I thought it was very sweet. I do understand that there may be some certain negativities that fall into that situation. For instance, people that share mental illnesses that date each other, may only date each other because they have mental illnesses; therefore, only being with the other person for one specific reason.
A positive outcome from this would be that the couple might feel extremely comfortable with being one another and freely express themselves in the relationship, which makes it even stronger.

When reading this article, I relate to it a lot when it mentions that people who are sensitive may not be successful with dating apps. I have used multiple dating apps before, and I have deleted them rather quickly because one 2 reasons: one, I would not get enough "swipe rights" and comments on my photos to where it brought me to believe that I was not good enough for the world of men and two, that most men I did get into contact with, were not interested in the same type of relationship that I strived for. They wanted something else like a natural hookup where I wanted something serious and real.

The fact that the generation of young adults wanted to die before growing old caught my attention from the very beginning. It was challenging times and things in the moment didn't seem like they would get better like with the human rights protest and the Vietnam war.

My gut reaction to this is that I think that it is great that this podcast was made because mental health in relationships isn't always talked about like it should be. I think that the positives to this are that if you and your person both struggle with mental health issues it makes it easier for you too to relate to each other and understand how each other feel. A negative to this is that having both of you struggle might be difficult because one of you might be having a really hard day and want your person to be able to lean you but knowing that they struggle too it might be hard for you to lean on them as much because you might feel like you are taking all of the attention when the other person needs it just as equally.

question 1: this is something that I honestly haven't really had to think about until now and honestly I feel like obviously its situational but for the most part no. I feel like mental illnesses especially more severe ones like bipolar depression and schizophrenia have not only a huge impact on the individual diagnosed but also their loved ones. It definitely takes a huge toll on the family members and is something they have to stay on top of and check in on to prevent things from becoming too bad. When it comes to two people dealing with a mental condition, I feel like it can be a dangerous mix. Mainly because I believe one mental breakdown can trigger someone else's and then they both could weaken each others state of mind.

Question 2: I believe it should be up to the person with the mental illness and what they feel comfortable doing. I don't feel like those with mental illnesses should feel obligated to tell the world, especially those they don't have any connection or relationship with yet about such a important and most likely challenging aspect of who they are. I do agree with those in the video however it is something that should be said towards the beginning stages of the relationship because that is a whole other commitment whoever you are dating would be choosing to take on.

You are basing who you may match only on looks initially and a few word bio if they even have it. Overall, I feel like it is a lot harsher on peoples mental health, especially those who are actually looking for something serious. It definitely takes a toll on your security with your own image of yourself and makes you question if your good enough or even if you are more than just a body that can be used to please others.

Q1: I think that there would be pros and cons to two people with mental illnesses dating. First of all, a huge pro could be that they would be able to understand each other more. I think there would be way more empathy and understanding for one another. On the other hand, I think that it may be difficult for two mentally-ill people to support each other. There are so many ups and downs when it comes to mental illness and it would be hard to catch each other in their downfalls. I like the example they use with members of AA. The main rule of AA is not date someone from AA. I think this can apply also to mental illness. How can you catch your partner when they fall if you're also falling yourself?

Q2: I think one should not disclose their mental illness on their dating website. That is a very personal and intimate topic to post publicly. However, I think it is definitely the person's responsibility to disclose that information as soon as possible to the person they are dating. I also think mental illness is balanced on a spectrum with some cases being more severe than others. Lastly, mental illness is not the definition of a person. When it comes to dating, just because someone has a mental illness does not mean that is the only thing that they are or have to offer.

I think it is important for users of dating apps to understand them at face value. You are literally swiping between hundreds of strangers and the likelihood of making a valuable connection off of that construct is slim. Yes, there are exceptions (just like with anything). However, everyone is on there for different reasons which may vary from user to user. Some people may be on dating apps to just seek something from casual to marriage and it is important to disclose that beforehand. I can understand why dating apps may be detrimental to one's mental health but, again, they should be interpreted and used at face value. Also, I liked the part where they mentioned we typically meet people from work and friends who are similar to us (given that they are in the same social realm). This is something I have found to be very important when seeking a partner and when you connect with strangers from different social realms you are stepping into unknown territories that may not be of your own identity/beliefs.

1) Personally, I find that there are many pros and cons within dating with a mental illness or disorder. Some advantages include empathy and comprehension. There is a relatability in dating an individual who may experience the same turmoil or stress. Though these disorders can be different, there is still the same exhaustion in dealing with the situation at hand. It may be easier to open up, be vulnerable or even transparent. On the flipside. with this, being patient could be a potential issue. Not everyone is equipped with the knowledge in knowing how to handle their partner, all the time.

2) I don't think it's necessary to put your mental illness in a dating profile whatsoever. Not only are mental disorders already stigmatized, it also opens up a conversation not everyone needs to have. Mental disorders are personal, vulnerable and different for every individual.

Overall, social media has multiple negative affects on peoples lives and especially their mental health. Dating apps I feel may be one of the worst forms of social media regarding mental health. Dating apps can affect someones mental health because I feel like they can cause a lot of insecurities. People may feel like others look better than them, they are not getting enough matches, or only people they are not attracted to are liking their profiles. I feel that these apps can really get to someones head and cause issues with their mental health.

They can understand one another better due to experience. A negative aspect would be, it can be explosive. How one acts due to their disorder can dig the couple deeper.

2. I don't believe that it is anyone else's business on an individual's mental health disorder. If the other person is actually interested, it takes time to understand one another without judgment.

My gut reaction to learning about mental ill people dating each other was interesting. I was a little shocked that there are apps for people with mental illness. I believe that it's a good thing to be honest on a dating app, it can show the person something important about you and they can decide if they accept you as you are. Who knows the relationship can potentially flourish. According to the podcast, 50 marriages have come from this app. It all depends on the situation, some people may be more ill than others, but they can understand each other and help each other grow. There can be love there, but some negatives would be if there are fights or a break up, their mental illness can get worse. In some aspect, I agree with the male in the podcast. When you come out of the psych ward, you can be vulnerable; therefore, you should continue focusing on yourself until you get into a relationship with someone.

Dating apps can be tricky. On one hand, they are a great way for people to meet if you're shy in person, or don't like approaching people in public. On the other hand, they can make people feel insecure, especially if they're not getting a lot of "swipes". Some dating apps are better for women, such as Bumble. Women get to make the first move. This can make women feel more in control, like they get to choose where the conversation goes. Dating apps have their positives and negatives but I think after reading and watching these assignments, I see how the negatives outweigh the good.

The positive side of someone who has been diagnosed with a mental illness and who is in a romantic relationship is the relationship can bring good feelings to that person and may increase that person’s self-esteem. However, if the person has not been in treatment and that person is not mentally stable, the negative side would be that this person’s relationship would likely be unsuccessful.

To be frank, I believe putting your mental health status on a dating profile should be a personal choice. I guess there are some people diagnosed with a mental illness that would want to keep that information to themselves. But perhaps some people would not mind putting the fact that they have a mental health diagnosis on a dating profile. I would just hope that those who are comfortable with informing others about being diagnosed with a mental illness would at least mention they were in treatment and are now stable.

I do not think it would be wrong if a person put on their profile about a mental health diagnosis, even if they indicate they are mentally healthy. I guess I would appreciate a person being “upfront” about their mental health so others know what they could possibly expect dating that person. Ultimately, I believe that when a person dates someone they meet online they should take precautions and consider other facts before they let that person get too involved with their lives and not just make decisions based on what was said on a profile about mental health.

When I was reading this article, the author made interesting points. I never really thought about mental health in conjunction with using dating apps. I do believe it is probably not a good idea for people who are mentally unstable to use dating apps. Also, if a person has low self-esteem, not being “liked” or being “ghosted” could probably lead to increased feelings of low-self-esteem and stress. So, I think it would be a good idea for people with those issues not to use a dating app.

In my opinion, if a person is going to use a dating app, then he/she should not put too much thought into being “liked” or “disliked” or even being “ghosted”. In fact, I believe a person should look at being “ghosted” or “unliked” as a blessing. In my opinion, if you are “disliked” or “ghosted” then that person was not compatible to date in the first place and that person did you a favor of not wasting your time. Dating apps should just be fun. I do not believe people should look to dating apps for finding “the one” or to validate who they are as a person. If a person uses a dating app and happens to end up with “that special person” after a long period of getting to know that person, in person, then great!

It can be good due to understanding each others problems and it would be something that would keep them together longer. Now it also depends on the disability and if they are taking care of it as well because if they are not then things can go bad.
2) Putting your mental health on your dating profile should be a must. Some people might not care about it but some people might just have a completely different point of view. Also you don't want to go into a relationship with a person who doesn't know your circumstance and then that person leaving as soon as they find out, I mean some people would go through it if they love the person that much but others might not be willing to deal with that.

1) My reaction to their podcast conversation was kind of shocking. I did not expect them to both have two separate opinions but it was engaging to listen to. And to this specific situation, there are positives and negatives here that balances each other out. The positive presented here is the mutual understanding of one another's mental health issues. This makes it easier for both partners in the relationship because you are also able to relate to each other as well. A negative to this situation is that because both partners are struggling with a mental health issue, the couple might clash. This is because if both partners are struggling and need someone to lean on, they may not be able to help each other since they both are struggling. this may make it hard to balance each other if it were to happen.

2) And when it comes to your illness, I believe you should put it in your profile because the person should know what they are getting themselves in to. If. a person is meeting you, they should be aware of your situation because it is important and it affects your life. You would not want them to leave you for not telling them, its better for them to know before hand and make their judgement after wards because many people do care while others don't, it really depends on the person.

1. In this podcast, they talk about people with mental health issues dating people who also have mental heath issues. Michelle who suffers from schizophrenia believes that they should just go for it. While Gabe who has bipolar disorder is more against it. Personally, my instinctive gut reaction lies with Gabe. As a negative of this situation is that both people may only worsen each others condition. There is a risk that it may be hard to balance each other. Nonetheless, as I think through and consider Michelle's stand, I also agree with her in doing what you want and makes you happy. If you are in love, as a couple you can try and make it work. And if you and your partner are committed to each other you can make it official and try it out. As there are positives to this situation. There is the possibility that you are able to have a successful relationship where you both relate and uplift each other. Overall, like Gabe I do believe balance is key. However, I agree more so with Michelle in doing what makes you happy and you think is best for you. In all, marriage is a union where both commit to each other against diversity.
2. Yes, I think you should put your mental health status on your dating profile. This is because it is important that you give the other person a chance to think through if they are willing to make the commitment to be understanding to your condition. Also because you don't know who is viewing your profile. It may be someone who also has a mental condition like Gabe who doesn't think they are stable enough to be in a relationship wth someone else with a mental condition. Maybe there state is severe and they don't want triggers. I don't think its okay to lead someone on into getting invested in you and then suddenly let them know you have a long-term illness.

Overall the article is very interesting. I like that it ends briefly summarizing the positives of dating apps however reminds users of the toll it may have on their mental health. Dating online offers people the access to thousands of possible parters all at once, and it is important not to take it too personally when rejected. In an app you are disposable to other options and people don't get to really meet you. And if you see that it is affecting your self-esteem and confidence you may want to opt-out and let life naturally present you with someone.

Q1- My initial reaction, was that it didn't surprise me that people with mental health issues date each other, seeing people, i have found, can have strong stigmas against individuals with mental health issues. That being said, i can understand why it might worry some people, however, I think in many cases, it is good to have a common understanding for one another and what you dealt with, even if it isn't exactly the same. The may be greater risk, in the sense that maybe they will not be fully able to support each other, as they have their own issues, but i think a very important thing to take into consideration is that, in any instance of partners involved in a relationship, it is important that the individuals are stable and sustainably independent before they get into a relationship, and this is something that goes for everyone, mentally ill or not, because both parties should be equal. However overall, I think it should be that person's choice, be it if they do it do not want to date another mentally ill individual or not, as long as everyone is safe and romantically communicating.

Q2- I think the choice of weather or not to share your mental health status should be a completely personal decision. I can understand the thinking that, you should be transparent with your partners, or that they "have a right to know," but but that individual also has aright to their privacy, and waiting to share that status until they know they can trust that person.

I found this article to be very interesting, as I knew next to nothing about these types of dating apps. I agree with the arguments presented in favor of these types of apps, as sometimes it is preferred to be able to build a relationship with someone of a shared or similar experience. I also definitely don't agree that "sick people should date sick people" but rather they have the choice to date in specificity if they want and if not, other people should maintain an open mind and not judge them on a disability.

1) My initial reaction is that the thought of two people dating with mental illness is an interesting thought. There could be a deeper connection and understanding for each other's way of thinking and their actions. On the other hand, it will be harder to take care of your partner if you have to work very hard to care for yourself as well.
2) I don't think that your mental health status should be displayed. It is something that can be very personal, and a person should share it on their own terms. Although now mental health is more openly talked about, there can still be a stigma around it and judgement/stereotypes based on your mental health status. It shouldn't be a defining factor of a person.

I thought the article was very interesting. Dating apps certainly can have a negative impact on users. Online personas don't always match exactly how people are in real life. Time and energy is put into talking to strangers, when it is likely that one of them will end up ghosting the other. It is draining and damaging to one's self esteem when things don't work out how they pictured in their head, as social media portrays only the good sides of people.

1) My initial reaction to this podcast was shocking and very interesting. It caught my immediate attention. I think it's safe to say people with mental health issues may feel more comfortable dating one another, because they will understand each other way better than anyone else would towards them having mental illness. But then there is a negative what happen if one another isn't feeling stable? like he said in the podcast it will be fireworks. That wouldn't be safe for either of them.

2) I feel as if putting your mental health status on your dating profile is completely your decision. If someone is really interested in you they should get to know you first, you tell them personal stuff at dinner and they get to know you more. Its very stereotypical putting your mental health status.
