This surprises the audience making them jump. Also background music is used to build up suspense for when the girl opens the wardrobe. We expect to see something jump at us but instead it comes out from a different direction. The use of silence creates an enigma as to where is the noise coming from.

It is dark and this brings out the characters facial expressions and the blood since the blood is the only "colorful" effect in this scene. Everything else is a blunt color.
