Questions to address
1.Why did Rome control much of this area of the world? For how long did it do so?
Rome controlled a large portion of the Mediterranean because of their conquests. They conquered neighbouring countries, giving them opportunities to establish new colonies in those founding lands. The more countries they conquered the more their empire grew. After standing for approximately for 500 years the Roman Empire fell.
2. What main languages were used?
The native language of Rome was Latin, it was the most written language, but Greek was spoken by the well-educated elite. Roman expansion spread Latin throughout Europe, but vulgar dialects developed in sparse locations.

3. What were some of the different ethnic/cultural groups living in the regions?
The ethnic groups in the Roman Empire included Greek, Latin, Goth, Aromanians, Albanians, and Serbians.
4. How were people and goods transported?
Transportation was carried out by land or sea but was most preferable by sea as this was deemed to be safer. If, and when transportation was done by land, people would use chariots, carriages or go by foot travelling among the 35,000 paved roads created by the Romans.

5. What were some main regions? What were some main cities?
The Roman Empire had taken control over countries such as Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East, establishing cities such as Rome, Constantinople, Smyrna, and Alexandria.

Post 2 - *Explain in 50-100 words the significance of the conversion of Saul of Tarsus Saul was a man who saw Jesus and his religion as the enemy, this was changed on a journey to Damascus with a letter from a priest granting him authority to arrest those who believed in Christianity. He began his journey but was blinded by a bright light shone by God asking why he was persecuting Christ, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”. This experience forced Saul to make changes in his life, including changing his name and preaching the gospel. This change was significant because he went from loathing Christianity to walking 20 thousand miles spreading the teachings and works of Christ. Paul is known as an advocate and promoter of Christianity and about his zealous attitude towards Christ.

Post 3 - *Outline the extent of Paul's first or second or third Journey *Include a map
Paul began his second missionary journey accompanied by Silas, leaving Syrian Antioch to begin work travelling through Syria and Cillicia. They moved on to Derbe and Lystra where they continued their work, and met a man by the name of Timothy whom they continued to travel with to Iconium. In these cities they had succeeded in creating new converts and enhancing their disciples. They continued on to Phrygia and Galatia, before arriving in Mysia, where the Holy Spirit had changed their plans and told them to travel to Troas. Paul then received another vision demanding he journey to Macedonia. From Macedonia they went to Philippi where they converted a young girl named Lydia. They become imprisoned, by curing the spirit of an evil girl, and then soon after released. They travel to Thessalonica where they preached about the gospel in a synagogue and create converts. They are sent to Berea where they find ready minds but trouble arrives and Paul is sent to Athens for protection. After Athens Paul went to Corinth, and met Priscilla and Aquila, and Silas and Timothy are reunited with them. Paul went to Ephesus through Cenchrea, he stayed their for a short time before sailing back to Caesarea to visit the church. From there he went to Syrian Antioch where their voyage started.

Post 4 - *Explain the purpose of Paul's letters and *identify the main messages in his preaching in approximately 100 words

The purpose of Paul’s letters was to spread the message and theological teachings of God. He also wrote about current issues in the Roman Empire, but this was not the main purpose of his letters. He talked about the messages drawn from the acts of Christ, and how we can use these values to influence our lives. His interpretation gave people a new perspective of Christianity and changed how people would approach this new religion. By writing these letters he populated Christianity and saved it from extinction.
Post 5 - *Identify and *explain in 50-100 words a cultural challenge for Paul that is revealed in one of his epistles
In Galatians a cultural challenge that Paul reveals is the circumcision of Gentiles in order to become a Christian. He could not set this example as he himself was circumcised, but he did not believe that this was a necessity to become a Christian. He states that salvation comes from believing in Jesus and not the works of the law, Jews often got carried away with the political perspective of their religion rather than the values that they should have been pursuing. This is why Paul believed that Gentiles did not have to be circumcised because it was a Jewish act and Jews had lost sight of the true meaning of Judaism.
Post 6 - *Interpret and *apply one of Paul's messages for us today in 50-100 words
In Philippians 4: 6-9, the message that I interpreted from this epistle was to love Christ and follow in his footsteps and in return he will always be with you when times are good or bad. The message talks about seeing the glass half full and being appreciative in times of a difficult situation. This message is applicable in our lives by remembering our Christian values and utilizing them whether the situation is favourable or difficult. Christ will assist us through these times, and shine a guiding light on the path he wants us to follow.
