One strategy that I am currently using to promote personalized learning is student selection of the best tech tools to complete tasks. They often will explore using different apps to achieve their goals- like a variety of graphic design programs to make their Food Truck Logo. One strategy that the article mentions that I would like to try is the use of the Zones of Regulation.

This autonomous decision-making allows them to play a significant role in the act of personalizing their own learning."

Personalized learning is done in all areas of our school and within each discipline. It is something that we do each time we give social emotional guidance and support to our students. We all know that they need to feel happy and good about themselves to be able to do their best in school. As Cindy said, by teaching the seven habits and taking the time to listen to and understand each of our students we are helping them feel confident and ready to personalize their own learning.

I love how the Food Truck project has somewhat of a personalized experience to it. I am aware that the core skills within the project are standardized, but the students do exercise freedom in the choice of menu, marketing, and expression of their creativity in design. It is interesting to see where that takes them and when they feel bold enough to stretch into more unfamiliar territory. What I want to continue to ask myself is whether the personalized attempts I make through the use of technology “chip away at connection, add complexity to routines, or lengthen feedback loops.” I also want to truly use the personalized experience rather than dip into the idea on the fringe. “Go Big or Go Home.”
