SeeSaw: Student Recording 1st Task Video

Below is a student recording his first video response to me. For their first task students had to watch my introduction video and then create one of their own. I suggested that students use sticky notes and write down what they would like to say before recording the video. This student chose to use that suggestion (see pink sticky notes on the top of the computer screen) and it seemed to really help him gather his thoughts. Students are already asking for their next SeeSaw assignment! Things I'm thinking about for future: How can I reduce the background noise so that students are heard more easily? When is the appropriate time to share with parents? How many times a week do I want to use SeeSaw (the students vote every day of course!)?

Observation/Support Thursday, October 12th:
Today the students joined SeeSaw and LOVED it! In the beginning there were a few hiccups (there was a problem with my username/email address) however with the help of Bryanna we figured it out and everything was smooth sailing from that point on! Students loved the idea of having their work online and enjoyed both watching my videos and created their own! See above for some video clips of the lesson! :)

Meeting Tuesday, October 10th:
This school year (2017-2018) I have decided that I will focus on successfully using SeeSaw in my classroom. SeeSaw is a student created digital portfolio for student work that can be seen by the student, the teacher, and the student's family - how cool?!! I am thrilled about the idea of using SeeSaw in my classroom and I hope my students (and their families) will be just as excited! Goal for Students on Thursday, October 12th: Students will be able to join our class on SeeSaw, watch the introduction video and first task video, and respond with a video to me. Fingers crossed this goes well! :)

Using DE in the Classroom

Last school year (2015-2016) I learned a lot about using Discovery Education in my classroom. One of my favorite parts about Discovery Education is being able to search, find, and save 2-4 minute video clips to use in the classroom. I have found using these quick video clips is a great way to keep the student's attention instead of showing a full 20-25 minute video. Weekly (almost daily!) we use DE clips in Science! As a grade level we save these clips in our school content folder. See lesson plans attached for evidence (lesson plans highlighted) of using DE video clips, reading passages, and explorations in the classroom.

Google Classroom: "Pushing Out" To Students

This year as a school we are focusing on successfully using Google Classroom. One great feature of having the classroom setup and in use is that I am able to "push out" websites, etc. to students. Last week during our matter unit we were studying conductors and insulators and to allow students to implement their knowledge of conductors/insulators we played Race to the Castle on Discovery Education. Instead of going through multiple steps for the students to log on and play the game I was able to push it out to them in a matter of seconds; this allowed for the students to practice identifying conductors and insulators longer as less time was spent on getting to the actual game. Love this push out feature!!
